  1. Man on a Stick

A Limerick, inspired by SoNickSays' avatar:

For a snack, Satan nibbled on Judas
then ate Cassius, followed by Brutus
    he had ordered to go
    from Dante's Inferno
while on holiday in the Bermudas

  2. The Dark InSpectre, Episode 9

Episode 9 of The Dark InSpectre is now online, in which our hero arrives at a fresh homicide scene, ready to get busy.

    Here's an excerpt:
At that moment a call came in over the comm in my ear. “All units, multiple homicides, officer down, Wheeler’s Convenience Store, corner of Trafford and Old Towne Road. Please respond.”

Trafford and Old Towne was just a few minutes away. I thought about it. A potentially pissed off Mary or a fresh multiple homicide. The chicken ...

    F*ck you Forrest Gump.
  4. The Dark InSpectre, Episode 8

Episode 8 of The Dark InSpectre is now online, in which our hero gets a little inside info on what makes his new boss tick.

    Here's an excerpt:
I plugged in the memory chip; the small screen lit up with a heading that read:

    IAD Background Check #734
    Subject: NAPD Academy Applicant
    Status: Telepath
    Name: Boyd, Walter T.

Internal Affairs ran extensive background checks on tels before accepting them into the Academy, looking into their ...
  5. The Dark InSpectre, episode 7

Episode 7 of The Dark InSpectre is now online, in which our hero finds things are a little leaky in the office.

    Here's an excerpt:
I looked at each of them, dead serious. “`A source inside the NAPD?’ I’m going to give you one chance. Just one. Then I’m never going to ask again. Does anyone have anything to say to me?”

All their eyes went wide, denial written on their features.

Teo Cruz spoke first. “Boss, no way.” He had a fervent look in his eyes. ...
  6. The Concept of Mercy

The concept of mercy is an intriguing one. When did man first learn to have mercy towards others of his own kind? Well, what is mercy? If I am to find a definition of mercy, I must first understand under which circumstances mercy is used. The environment which mercy is most often used is in a situation where one man has another man's fate entirely under his control.

For example, in ancient times, in battle, one man would be entirely defenseless, while another would have that man at ...
  7. Beauty in the Dark

    Beauty dancing in the dark
    arms swinging, hips swaying.
Colored lights playing across the black curves of her dress.
Body and soul given to the music.

There is no care, no fear, no joy.
She dances as if she must.
Held captive by the beat, hypnotized by the lights.
Forcefully she dances, as if to leave a piece of herself here.
  8. Description #1 of RonPrice's Journal/Blog

My literary activity on the world-wide-web is a personal and quite industrious enterprize. When I can find the time, I am engaged in creating across this global internet a tapestry or a jig-saw puzzle of poetry and prose. At this site, readers will find my website as well as one of my many journals, diaries, blogs or just a series of posts in the sub-sections of this place on the internet. Site administrators and moderators have different ways in which they allow writers like myself to place their ...

I think writing is like taking a shit. You need time to chew, swallow and digest to make something worthwhile. If you just keep pushing, without the requisite pre-requisites, nothing comes out.

  10. The Dark InSpectre, Episode 6

Episode 6 of In Plain Sight, The Dark InSpectre Series, is now online, in which our hero finds things simmering just as hotly on the home front.

    Here's an excerpt:
She was livid. I felt her flinch when I said Jimmy’s name. Knew the blow was coming an instant before she did, but I didn’t stop her.
“HOW DARE YOU!” Mary smacked my face hard enough to sting. I felt like hugging her. Instead, I sat there, passively watched as she got up and stalked back into the house, slamming ...
  11. Sexual abuse

    Sexual abuse
I would like to hear your thoughts, get your views and read your opinions on this hot topic.. and also on abuse in general (personal experience or knowledge of such a thing which has happened).

As a victim of clerical sexual abuse myself, this topic is very hard for me to talk about. I am at present seeing a councillor and dealing with this issue as best I can. So to help me try and heal my wounds he suggested that I try to write about it and talk about it. ...
  12. Lycan Blood

Daverana Enterprises has currently returned to ebook the seven volumes of my Lycan Blood series that were originally published in 06 and 07 by Renebooks.

The lycans were once the wolves of the British Isles. While it is generally believed that all the wolves were killed off, in reality their moon goddess turned the wolves into men so that they could hide among the humans who were hunting them to extinction. When even that proved not enough to protect them, the goddess Tala, took her ...
  13. Feeling Silly Tonight

So my friend and I are currently messing around on-line and trying to get her signed up here, but she's not showing up in the member list. Either we're doing something wrong (and in that case I blame the wine we've imbibed) or . . . well I'm not sure there is an or. I guess we'll keep trying.

It's nice to be back after a long absence, and it's nice to be able to talk about writing again. I've been struggling lately with work and family life being somewhat crazy. I'm hoping to be able ...

  14. Dialogue Only: A Little Dark Humor (old piece for k3ng to read)

by , June 11th, 2010 at 03:41 PM (What the Fox Says)
    “Geez, that’s cold!”

“Stop being such a baby, it’s only the basement wall.”

“Hunh, seems to me that you’re the one who wouldn’t come down here alone.”

    “It’s dark!”

“It’s usually dark when the lights go out.”

“Oh, you’re funny. Really, you are.”

“I distinctly remember you saying, ‘Aww, c’mon, Sam, I don’t want to go down there alone.’…Ow!”

    “What? What happened?”

“Fell off the step. What’s the sharp ...
  15. Never brush your teeth with Icy Hot

Distractions, even in your own home, come at a price. My mind was so busy with thoughts of things that I needed to do today. I was actually carrying on a conversation in my head, while I reached for the tube of toothpaste. I had it on the brush and in my mouth before I realized something wasn't right here. Looking closer at the tube I had just set down, I saw it was Icy Hot.
Wow! This stuff really works! My mouth was certainly icy and hot. Thankfully, I had only brushed the left side of ...
  16. The Joys of Paper

[Copied and pasted from my external blog. Please do take a look. I'm trying to update regularly, every few days or so]

I sent off a submission today. It was somewhat unusual, in that I had to print out the manuscript, and the cover letter, in physical paper form. And as I stood in the ridiculously long line at the post office, it occurred to me that even though it’s a rarity that I submit in this fashion (the only markets I submit to by post any more, are the stalwarts of British ...
  17. August 18th 2008...

I can't stop thinking about this day.
It is forever marked in my mind and will never leave me.
    Sometimes, I wish it would.
    I can't sleep well.
    He's always on my mind.

    Daddy, why'd you leave me?
    I miss you.

  19. Driver's Ed 101

She was well into her fifties,
    when daddy ran her down
    on the road to enlightenment.
    Eighteen wheels of ignorance
    never leaves a pretty roadkill.

There had been signs along the way
of course, but they were hidden
by the forest of family trees.

Sounds of daddy, raging at the televison
as Dr. King marched into history,
    blended with the aroma
of mama's fried chicken in the kitchen.

  20. Wedding in Wisconsin = Win?

Well, yesterday I got back from my cousin's military wedding in Madison. It was very neat, at the end, six marines (3 on each side) lined up into two rows and raised their swords in the air, and my cousin and his wife passed under the swords. The two guys in front lowered their swords, barring their way. He welcomed my cousin's wife into the Marine corp, and let them pass.
  21. Can I get some Science with my Fiction?

[Copied and pasted from my external blog. Please do take a look, I try to update every few days]

This sort of follows on from my "In Defence of Genre" post, so you might like to take a look at that first.

But anyway, I've been thinking about what precisely science-fiction is. It covers a great deal of subgenres, some of which I've written in. But the fundamental idea behind it is in the name, I think. Science-fiction. Equal measures of ...

[3:34 PM, Atlanta, GA. A small room in the East Wing of the now, slightly demolished parliament building.]

"Hi, I'm from the American-Norwegian Musical Library Society of America."

"Uh huh, nice to meet you... I guess. You know that title makes absolutely no sense, right?"

"Well, yes, we were going more for eccentricity with the title than logic."

    "I see. It's ...

  23. Really Tiny Small Talk

I'm paraphrasing here, mind you, for style, but mostly for everyone's patience:

"I have this friend, well, work acquaintance, really -- told her about the time I punched a shark in the nose. Strangely enough, I had her going, until she asked me where I was when in happened -- on the spot now, what do I spit out -- really stammering -- Vanuatu! I didn't believe it myself. She asked me where that was and I tried to give her a geographical reference (something about the Mariana ...
