I haven't posted anything for a while so here you go:

The Escalator

I once was scared that escalators
Sucked kids through their teeth
And mauled them 'til they screamed in pain
And mooshed them down beneath

Janitors would swab their blood
And flush it down the drain
Their bones would get stuck in the mop
And stab into their brain

None would let their mothers know
What had become their fate
They would walk oblivious
Right past that sewer grate

But here it comes, I have arrived
I'm at the stairway top
I know I'll beat my fear someday
But until then I'll hop

Loved this. I'll make the grandchildren read it before I take them shopping - give me a bit of leverage

Love it. I remember exactly how that felt as a kid; escalators were so fascinating.
The poem is a mini horror story that is warm and funny nonetheless.
