    Editor Keeps Writing to Me

    Hello,

I submitted my work to an online magazine about a week and a half ago; since then the editor has written back to me several times, but she only mentioned my work once.

Is this normal, for an editor to be this friendly? Should I assume my work piqued her interest, or should I assume she's just being friendly and take it as no more than that?

    thanks for any ideas,

Depends what she's saying. My best guess would be that your piece has piqued her interest in you as a writer (which could mean that she is testing the waters to see if there's a potential professional relationship that could blossom). Either that or she's lonely. Lol.

Also, I'm astonished you heard back from an editor in a week and a half! How awesome! Most writers wait months to hear back, if they even do at all.

    That sounds somewhat fishy.

I've had replies from pro-level SF magazines in two days. Some of them take months, but there's no reason they have to.

I once had a brief chat with an editor (after he rejected my story). Turned out he used to live about ten miles from me, so we exchanged a few brief emails about the goings-on in western Pennsylvania.

Also, the rejection and subsequent chat came the day after I submitted my story. The wait varies. I've been both accepted and rejected a day later, and from other markets, I've waited six months or more.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't notified until today that anyone had posted, so I didn't realize there were responses.

I am less anxious about this than when I started the thread. I figure she's just being friendly. It would be nice if they published my story, though!
