Everyone thinks they have an interesting life but is mine interesting enough 4 a book

Hi all , the title says it all really.

I cant get my ego out of the way so before I set off on a very long journey I would rather like to test the temperature so to speak. Ive already written one self published book so I know how much effort is involved and how much time and frustration im in for. By the time i'd finished the final edit I hated it, it was like a child i'd spawned, didn't like, but could't get rid of.

I don't think I'm the most eloquent writer so in many ways my story has to carry quite a lot of weight

Am I wasting my time and yours, should I just get on a write it and not worry?

If I am to put up a synopsis where do I do that?

    Over to you

    HI Nacian
No certainly not, I haven't even started it, actually thats not quite true, I've started several versions over the years and trashed them but now im earnestly pressing on, if I can get past this first public test. having had a crack in the past I think ive got a much better underlying theme than ever before and thats in my synopsis

I find writing about one's life most interesting because it neither fiction or non fiction.
I am more inclinded toread real life stories then made up ones.
There is something about writing about our lives which tends to be more entertaining.
There is anhonest feel about it and most of us should identify with it so more the reasons why we all should.
You cannot beat a truthful book because it can be a real eye oponer to things we don't know about or about to experience.
so I would say definetely do.

Are you wanting to write a non fiction autobiography?

If so... I think they're very hard to market. Last year I met a writer who had had quite a bit of success with three non-fiction autobiographical books he'd written. But he had lots of connections, having written for Australian TV for years. And he worked his way into the book thing because he's a comedian and then went and did a big bird watching tour of Australia, so the combination of the two made for this kind of excellent book.

I think any stories are worth telling if told well. But to try and sell a book based on your life if you're not famous, or a refugee camp survivor... I just think they're very difficult to pitch and to market.

Like a Kox, You make a very good point. I'm not a refugee camp survivor more a life survivor so my book follows the tradition of Frank McCourt in Angela's Ashes, Gregory David Roberts in Shantaram or even Howard Marks In Mr Nice, none of whom were famous before publishing. Hope springs eternal is my motto and this I suppose is as true for me as my book, potentially. Thanks

Non-fiction biographies or autobiographies are not uncommon these days and many of them have sold well. If they contain rebellion of any sort (against parents, school, society), people would love to read them. At least that's how it is this side of the world.
    Recent books:
Five Point Someone (by Chetan Bhagat)
Girls of Riyadh (by Rajaa Alsanea)
    Princess Trilogy (by Jean Sasson)

My friends had asked me to write one too about my life and I'd toyed with the idea for some time, but I finally gave it up. Novels are not my thing, at least for now.

“The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn, the bird waits in the egg, and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities.” ~ James Allen
