Two Characters. Bouncing Ideas off the wall.

This isn't a novel per se... I'm going to be doing a short web comic for a change of pace, in order to test my drawing abilities. In any case, I'd like to bounce some ideas off of the forum.

I have this idea of a girl who adores catfish and is a great power bowler. She's devoted to bowling with her friends on the weekends, who love to take along her pet catfish(the catfish seems to just float in the air. Some things aren't really going to need to be adhered to, too strictly on the realism side. Think magical sidekick.)

I'm not sure what to do from there. There's lots of possibilites. She's cute as a button, and I'm thinking there's a boy she could develop a crush on at the bowling ring.

Which brings me to my second character. An arrogant, laid back, son of a cop, who tries best to keep his composure. At the same time, I don't want him to come off as a know it all type. His relationship with his father is strained...

I'm thinking something could happen at the bowling alley between these two. Anything that causes a good amount of friction. It'll probably turn out that he's just moved to the neighboorhood. Maybe his father has just been hired to be the police chief of the force. Which leads to the question of what happened to the old police chief...

In any case, I'll be posting new ideas and character sketches as I progress. I'm basically just slapping spaghetti on the wall and seeing what sticks.

This seems like a very Shoujo-style web comic from what you have described. A lot of these types of comics generally have more than one love interest for the girl, giving a sense of conflict. The male characters usually have varied or often even polar-opposite personalities.
The idea of a girl who adores catfish is actually quite impressive. It's a very unique idea that will probably attract a lot of manga/web comic fans who prefer weird and interesting characters to realistic characters in "slice of life" genre romance comics. Are you also thinking of making this a comedy too?

Make it so that her magical flying catfish dislikes the boy that she has a crush on. Instant conflict and room for comedy.

The boy's flirting with the girl and not paying attention, and instead of grabbing a bowling ball, he accidentally grabs the catfish and rolls it down the alley.
