    The Poppies on Peafowl Lane

In the summer I posted a long short story on the Writers' Workshop board called 'The Poppies on Peafowl Lane.' I have lengthened it now, to approximately 18000 words, and am looking for readers to give it the once over. The feedback I received on the original piece was really helpful, and I'm looking for advice again on ways this might be improved, or even just whether or not it reads well and is enjoyable as a complete story.

I'm posting this request here as the story is too long to post on the forum, and I don't want feedback on an excerpt. Naturally, anybody reading the whole thing will be owed a couple of critiquing favours in return. If anyone who read the original wishes to read this then that would be great.

Please let me know by either sending me a PM, or just say yes on this thread.

    Regards

    BB
The sand of the desert is sodden red, -
Red with the wreck of a square that broke; -
The Gatling's jammed and the colonel dead,
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke.
The river of death has brimmed his banks,
And England's far, and Honour a name,
But the voice of schoolboy rallies the ranks,
"Play up! play up! and play the game!"

The original story was powerful. I don't remember whether I commented at the time - not being an accomplished writer of fiction I hesitate to critique in the fiction board, having been told a time or two there that I don't know what I'm talking about - but I would be happy to read the extended version.

Thanks, Garza. I just checked the original, and you didn't leave a comment. I'd say with your background you've got more right than many to provide feedback. I remember enjoying a short story you posted (can't remember it's title), or it may have been an excerpt. Everybody's got an opinion, it's just that some think their own opinion makes those of others invalid.

Anyway, I could send the story to you via PM. Alternatively, I could email it, if you're happy enough to pass on an email address. It would be less time consuming for me as I could send it as a word doc.

If you're happy to forward an email address then PM me with the details. Don't post it here.
