    Favorite books on writing?

What is your favorite book on writing? I'd like to get a few for light reading before NaNo.

Right now, I'm reading Sin and Syntax by Constance Hale. It's a little pretentious, but does it get better? I've also read some excerpts from How NOT to Write a Novel and was considering picking up to help with pacing and plotting.

The First Five Pages by Noah Lukeman
How NOT to write a Novel by Sandra Newman and Howard Mittlemark.

Those two are very helpful I think, How NOT to write a Novel is very funny.

On Becoming A Novelist, John Gardner
Self-Editing for Fiction Writers, Browne & King.
    Creating Short Fiction, Damon Knight

Those are my favorites. Also decent are

On Writing, S. King. (only about 100 pages of advice sandwiched between memoirs)
    Elements of Style, Strunk/White
    Stein On Writing, Sol Stein
Art of Fiction, Gardner (really philosophical; good discussion of plot and common errors, though)
English words are like prisms. Empty, nothing inside, and still they make rainbows.
    Denis Johnson, Already Dead

On becoming a Novelist was the first book on writing I ever read. It helped me a lot but I lost in somehow during a move. I've gotta get my hands on that one again. On Writing was good also, although I'm not sure I agree with King on everything.

Besides an Oxford Concise and two editions of Fowler's, the only book on writing I've ever found useful, and that mainly because of personal connection, is How Does a Poem Mean by John Ciardi.
