1) Don't worry about how good they are, just worry about telling the story.
2) Read more
3) Write more.

What did it for me was spending my mid-teen years writing for a local newspaper editor who was a demanding tyrant, a short-tempered perfectionist.
You can try being your own demanding tyrant and short-tempered perfectionist, but that may not be a good idea. j.w.olson's words may be a better plan.
Consistency comes through practice, and learning how to write well. If you happen to write well by accident, you can't be consistent. If you learn what you are doing, then you can write well repetitively.
Whether your ideas are as good as a previous one is a different story though...
Interestingly, I looked back at my pilot book and compare with my current one, I realize the pilot book is relatively bad...
Good news is that I have improved & progressed along the way.
So I continue to read, read and read and write, write and write...and once a while, I go back to study/revise the fundamentals of the English language; verb, pronoun, adjective, adverbs, conjunction etc.
