    Beginning at the end

Do you ever begin at the end? If you do, how much detail to you put into the end before going back to the beginning? I recently started a short story after I worked on the ending and I've found I'm being pulled into the narrative differently then previously, when I've started at the beginning. Although I have a premise, when I start at the beginning, I'm attempting to discover the characters and let them reveal the plot to me. Starting at the end the plot seems to come with more force.

I always begin at the end. If you don't have something you're working for, how do you know when you're done? How do you prevent your story from spiraling out of control?

Of course, I design the book as a whole, rather than in a linear fashion. More on this in your "Do you always start with an outline?" thread.

I know of someone from another forum who had pulled off this one quite nicely. It was a short story, and I quite liked it. If you want to check it out, the link is here: Blue - 2nd Epics and Legends Writing Battle

As for me, I've never done it, and most likely, I won't do it in the near future. I've always been a spontaneous sort of guy, so I always think of the beginning first, then go from there. Sorry if I have not explain myself well. XD
