Story idea: Girl finds out she is really a princess, and is now thrown into this whole social climbing world. With 'Paris Hilton' like people, who will do anything to get to the top.

I don't mean to be rude, but this sounds a bit too much of a cliche. One prominent example, among a long list of examples, is The Princess Diaries starring Anne Hathaway. And yes, there's also a long list of examples when this plot comes reversed, one prominent example of which is Princess Protection Program.

But then again, if you think you could bring something new and engaging to the table, then why not?

Well, even if it is a big cliche, I'm sure there is a huge group that will be attracted to an idea like that if executed well.

Cliches can sell-- stupid plots for stupid people, after all

Are you saying princess are cliche or just normal-girl-finds-out-she's-a-princess stories?

You can spin this and have fun with it.

How about making the 'princess' a hard core anarchist, anti-establishment zealot. If her circle of bomb-throwing friends ever found out she was NOBLE, OMG!!!
The story could revolve around her attempts at trying to hide her royal secret. In the end, the princess' friends come to grips with her 'handicap', and turn it to their advantage.
They gain access to Buckingham Palace and pie Kate Middleton in the face.

I actually thought of the Princess Diaries too! I think, like others above, if you execute the writing correctly, it could be an interesting read.

Why Kate Middleton, after all she's supposedly the most normal of them. If it was the ex-Tasmanian Danish princess ("my 'only' goal in life is to be a princess"), then you'd have me cheering all the way.

Seriously though, the cliche 'head-in-bucket' princess story has a recognised readership audience, which is one less battle to have with any publisher.

Just the "normal-girl-finds-out-she's-a-princess stories" part. ^_^

That is true of anything, I was reading an account of a 1930's whist drive in Birmingham the other day, I find it hard to imagine a more boring subject, but J B Priestly made it an enjoyable read. "It's the way you tell them" to paraphrase a certain comedian.

*Back to topic* I'd like to read it if it had an interesting perspective on the whole celebrity-paris-hilton vacuity, I think it has the potential to be a truly LOL kinda story!
