Hi, I'm a new member. Whenever I want to know more about something, there are usually forums online that contain a wealth of information, collective expertise, and personal experiences. Learning about writing has been no different and after researching a few forums I have decided to join this one so that I can solicit advice and perhaps one day contribute meaningfully, as I do on other boards.

I have decided to write a non-fiction book outlining and detailing the steps, equipment, mindset and focus required to produce music out of one's home or living area. I consider myself able to write sentences that are easily understood and flow together well. I know quite a bit about the subject I'm writing about so I feel confident that my book will help others starting out in the business of making music on a budget. I also feel like there is a growing number of people who are taking the plunge into home-based music however there are really very few good concise guides that address this particular niche of the industry. So I feel like there is or will be a market for what I am writing about.

Although I took a English class and a writing course in college I know nothing about writing a book, publishing it, or even copyrighting it. I don't know how to or even if I should cite Wikipedia or other sources such as books, or online articles. I do know that I have a passion for writing about this subject and I know that my information will be useful. I've been focusing my energies into regurgitating the meat of the book onto paper (electronic paper), and have as of yet spent no energy researching what I should do once I have my book complete, aside from this post.

So, having said that, where do I begin? Can someone recommend some reading material that details information about how to get started?

I worked for many years in graphic design so I will be able to present the book to a printer in a format ready to print. Knowing graphic design also helps me design the layout, pictures and overall aesthetic of the book as well.

Thanks for any thoughts or advice you may have! =)
