    Writers block

I've had writer's block for the last week. Looking for some advice. Been looking for resources for ideas on line the only thing I found was the Breaking the Block iphone app and it's been helping a lot but does anyone else have any ideas?

Writer's block is usually symptomatic of some other problem. If you are in the middle of a story and you cannot find a way to continue, or lack motivation, it may be that the story has lost focus, or you don't understand the plot/characters as well as you thought. If that is the case, start over with fundamental questions about your character's motivations, and, as always, search for ways to dramatize conflict.

The only way through is forward. Keep writing, and suffer through it.

Try switching off the internet and looking for advice elsewhere?

Oh, I hear you, JohnV. I've been in a slump for ages and am happy to say that I just got back into it again via music—voiceless soundtracks, to be exact. Try spinning a few and let your imagination run wild. It's working for me.

How To Get Critiques On Your Work: WF is very much a give and take community, meaning the best way to get constructive critiques and comments on your work is to give them to others.

Step away.. watch TV, eat, make a coffee, read a book.

Just sitting, staring at it and beating yourself up will not help, give your brain a few moments to relax.

Then re-read what you've already done, refresh your memory, and move on.

It just sounded pompous, so I've deleted it.

Whenever I get stuck, it's at the end of an act. It's always because of a brick wall that I hit in the plot. And everytime, everytime, I refuse to admit to it! It always takes me sitting down and being honest with myself about why I can't write. In those cases, I end up saying: "It's because you don't know what the hell to do with character A at this point." or plot B, or scene C etc. In the end, once I acknowledge it and deal with the problem through a lot of pacing around the house like a madman, I finally get past it.
