    Superheroes

Well I already decided that I'd do a super hero novel. However, I don't want to go mainstream Twilight/I am Number 4 series. With angsty emo teens. I wanted a much more mature cast, older as well.

But, how old should I go? I'd love a variety of ages, not to young though nothing 20 and below. I really had this idea of like a fifty year old man beating the snot out of some bad guys.

How well would these heroes be received being older?

Obi Wan Kenobi was no spring chicken in the first Star Wars film.

In the comic book only, Daredevil's mentor was a blind old dude who could take on an entire baroom full of thugs.
They call me Spooky, Spooky Mulder. A joke to my peers and an annoyance to my superiors. Whose sister was abducated by aliens when he was a kid, and now runs around with a badge and gun yelling to anyone who is listening that the fix is in and when it hits, it'll be the crapstorm of all time.

Hi JP, I've written a screenplay where the super hero is female in her early 30s and uses the Phantom Kill to edit her enemies. Go with whatever takes your fancy.

Young superheros are a relatively recent phenomenon. Superman, wolverine, batman, conan, green lantern. Most of your traditional heroes are older guys.

To see really old guys done well check out the movie R.E.D.

Well. since being 50 years old doesn't mean that a real person can't take care of themself, I'd imagine that a 50 year old with super powers would manage OK.

With the exception of batman, and other mortals who will eventually grow old and become forgetful ( Batman and the case of the lost spectacles is not my favourite movie ) I think you might be onto something. It is time some one started to explore the more murky regions of criminality. Have you decided on any detail ? Secret identity. Side kick. Super power. ( I have a super power, I can cure hiccups ) Will it be for younger readers or for only the most die hard blood fest freaks ?

    I think if you go for a 50-something superhero, you shouldn't give him/her a young male side-kick.

I know this isn't quite the superhero idea, but think of how well Jean-Luc Picard came off.

    Your idea has definite potential.

Well let us just say my husband is a comic book fan and forty five. I think he'd dig an older hero. Two things he has been less interested in though are gore/overdone violence and pessimism. Witty, very intelligent, and somewhat left of center would be a good start.

I haven't read comics in many years, but assigning appropriate superpowers is a great way of avoiding gore!

I agree! That was an awesome movie.
Super hero's can be any age as long as you give them qualities that people can identify with. Its all about ability, personality, and character.

Well that's my start. I want someone who is smart. Intelligent and clever. And I really want a new start for heroes. I want him to be older. And I'd give him a superpower, but it wouldn't affect aspects of fighting more than his very own natural intelligence.

Follow the pattern that attached with the creation of superman, batman, etc. They are old and will suit to your interests too.

Another great film that you might get some inspiration from is 'Watchmen'. It gives a very realistic portrayal of superheroes who live a regular life, grow old and retire.
