Greetings,
I'm on the verge of assembling a structure to my book, but first I'm hoping to get some input regarding the assembly of the pieces. It seems that there are varying approaches to divvying up a novel. So far, I haven't found one concise approach that I can use faithfully, and with confidence.
I feel the way to split up the meat of this story is via part, chapter and sections. If I pursue this plan, would it be best served to handle it as follows?
Parts. I would display these as Parts 1, 2, etc. followed by a title for each part.
Chapters. I would number these from the beginning of part 1, without re-numbering them at the beginning of any following parts. Each chapter would also have it's own title.
Sections. Within each chapter I would simply number a handful or more of sections. These numbered sections would reset at the beginning of each new chapter.
I guess this can seem elementary, but this topic has proven to have a lot of subjectivity among writers. I'll appreciate any opinion and/or advice regarding this topic.
Thanks!
