"Novel written by the protagonist" narration style.

I have this story where the main character is an amateur writer struggling to find a balance to his life.

I wanted to have a special way to start it, and I thought about making it seem as if the author of the book was the protagonist himself.

This is how it would look (very rough draft, just to show the idea):

    Prologue

My name is Arthur, and this is the story of how I fell in love with Ellen.

When my life had reached a point were I couldn't move on, both on my writing career and school, that was when I met her. The small girl with auburn hair and ivory skin, I was fascinated. But why was I? I didn't know at the time, but the fact remains that my life was changed forever.

This novel is the tale of the most important moment in my life, I hope it moves you as much as it moved me.

    Sincerely,

    Arthur Bowen.

    Stagnant Feelings

"'Have you ever fallen in love?' she asked, 'the kind of love you can never —'"

The words had stopped flowing inside my head. Frustrated, I closed the notebook and leaned back on my old chair. "It's no use," I said, staring at the roof.

    ...

    And so on
What do you guys think of this?

I think it's a great idea. One of my favourite books, Moby-Dick, is that format, which my sig is pulled right out of.
Let's see if my above post is deleted without explanation. Wouldn't be the first time.

Thanks, I think I'll go with it then!
