    Foxee made me...

...start a this thread--because it deserves a space of its own.

    And I quote:

Try running the characters through the Mary Sue Litmus test to see if they're too idealized. Be honest with yourself. It's easy to make characters who are examples of your own wish-fulfillment and to be blind to that fact.

Never laughed so hard! This is the menu for a bad story. Like Olly says, I'd like to write one where the MC answers every question 'yes.' How fun would that be? To intentionally write a HORRIBLE book...and make it look like an honest and earnest effort!

Maybe we could put it in the Literary Maneuvers section. We could create a Franken-story with everyone's input....

So I went out and plowed the driveway, which, by the way, is a great way to deal with writer's block, and I had to come back and initiate this. So, having stolen a character suggested by a friend, I'd like to get the Mary-Sue Project rolling. (Pending approval of the Powers-That-Be, et al, etc.) Go here: Literary Maneuvers/The Mary-Sue Project (Apparently I'm not smart enough to link this thing....)

    Have fun!

I suppose we could put the Wretched Collaboration in the RPG section even.

Edit: I just moved it over to the RPG section...after I got done laughing.

Anyone who wants to jump in on the Mary-Sue Project go here!

And another edit: How the heck am I supposed to add to the Mary-Sue project? I'm laughing too hard.
