    Dark dreams

Every night I awaken by a scream from a voice unknown to me. I hear whispers as if someone or somthing are having a conversation, yet as I lay in my bed staring into the darkness I realize no one's here, just me, alone, but where are those voices coming from? Sometime's they call me in theirwhisper voice and nothing else. These voices used to frighten me but not anymore, I learned to ignore them, after all nothing happens, their harmless... so I thought.

    "Sarah."
A whisper voice calls to me from nowhere. My eyes flew open staring into the darkness of my room,in attempt to disregard the whispers of the night.
    (End)
Where do you see this story going? I don't have a clue and I'm working hard to figure it out with no luck. The title may change if the story doesn't match.
Please & thank you for helping.

I suppose it would descend into a nightmare where her bed starts shaking, little lights pop up and disappear, windows fly open, and she tries to convince herself that she's imagining it and attempts to sleep and pretend it's not happening. She'll wake up the next day perfectly fine, just shaken up. The voices will start randomly shouting out to her occasionally regardless of her prior "learning to ignore them". Things will carry on for a week or so like that, then she has another dream, followed by pretending it's not there again. The voices will be worse. Third week, she'll wake up dead.

Hopefully the above will help create some ideas/progress.

I think it's a perfect setup for a mystery/supernatural story if the voice comes from a ghost, or maybe action if she just happens to be a mind-reader in development. I have a setup like that in a romance story where the heroine is a mind-reader gone wrong.

What I'm getting at is that basically anything fits just fine. It's all about how you write it.

The problem the voices are having is that she’s not frightened of them anymore. After many sessions with a child psychotherapist, she has even learned to ignore them. So now the voices have to get worse and do more in order to frighten her so she will listen to them again. Because, as it turns out, they are trying to warn her that her psychotherapist is really a child murderer, and she’s next on his list.

If this were my story, I'd stick with a demonic theme. The voices she hears aren't trying to get her to attention, they're trying to get her soul. Each night she wakes up, the voices growing louder with each passing occurrence. Finally culminating with a dark figure standing at the end of her bed. Terrified, she'd ask who's there. The figure would reply, using the same voice she's been hearing all these years, and give the name of a demon, or even Lucifer himself. Without warning, it would morph into a mist and thrust itself into her chest, thus taking her soul.

Would losing her soul kill her? How would I know? I just have an overactive imagination. In the end though, it's your story, your tale from your mind. If something comes to you, use it! I like where it seems to be going though, it sounds ghostly. I actually wrote a story about ghosts and such, but it's on my blogspot page, which you are more than welcome to check out, if you'd like.

Sarah's 'real world' is a dream. She is in a coma, and the voices she hears are her doctors, family, and friends reaching out to her . . .
