    What to read?

    Hello,
I am having trouble with my plot development...especially with creating interesting dialogue and long time jumps. I know the best advice is to read, however, I don't know where to start reading! My genre is fantasy.

    Suggestions? Thanks so much!

I don't think you necessarily have to read other books that are the same as the genre you're working in. My advice would be to read everything and anything, because you'll get a wider understanding that way. At the end of the day, good writing is good writing - whatever genre it falls into. In terms of gritty realism and the power of description, quick-witted dialogue, I'd look no further than Raymond Chandler, and particularly his novel, "The Big Sleep". It shows what good writing is - well, not good, incredible in my honest opinion. But as a general peice of advice I'd recommend that you read as many different books and authors as possible, it'll only help not hinder.
