What is an appendix? My girlfriend is doing a project on evacuees WW2 and wants to add an appendix but isn't clear on it's meaning. Note: she has source references from images and facts used.

To append, to add on. So it is an extra bit added on to the end of the book which contains material that is relevant to the main body but does not really fit in it, quite often it is stuff like charts or graphs, but really it could be anything, a time line, a family tree, diagrams for example.
A Read for the Train, a collection of short stories, flash fiction and verse. Its cheaper on Lulu, 25% discount.

If she's doing a history project then your number one source of appendices will probably be relevant copies of authentic materials (war documents, war letters, etc.)
