    Would this ever be possible?.

So, my friend who I've been friends with for years, we created a game 'The Warrior kids'. I have a feeling this game will not last much longer because of her personal things in life but I cannot see this game go down, I would love to make this game of ours into a story though I really don't think it could ever be published (though I'd love it to) because of how odd this game is.

It's The Warriors Kids, base off The Warriors movie (about a gang, made in 1979 I think) so the name and the parents could not stick cause they were made from these people and that's copy right. I am stuck how to do this story though cause we never did ages, well, we did but it was complicated. I have a character who is 22 and his sons are 18/19 (I would just make the father older in the proper story, this doesn't bother me but changing all ages does), . So, this will have to change but damn, it's gonna be hard!!. Adding agong characters will be hard cause it will make this story so much harder to make... And then after a certain point, Suoer natural creatures/people with powers (this has a story line to it) come into the story at one point because of my friend (not my choice, I didn't want powers and stuff in the game) but I won't not add it cause my favorite character Musk and Zilch have powers. Ok, Zilch is a alien... There are a lot of my characters without power, I have, what, 3 main ones with powers, my friend has more. There are plots behind why some characters did get powers and how these aliens/odd creatures come into the game!. These super natural things do not start happening for a bit and there not in the game that much, sometimes. I don't want to add them but not adding them, would ruin the game.

There is a quite abit of violence, sexual scenes and the characters history involve under age stuff which wouldn't be in detail ofcourse but needs to be added in cause it makes who they are!. There is racism but there not all the time ofcourse!. It started off simple with a few character and grew to quite a few but we have main ones. We have a few different gangs (some rivals, some friends to The Warrior kids), there's so many things that can make this story so interesting if I write it right.

I cannot let go of this game, especially cause I love my characters so much and it would be fun to write them in a story, especially my FAVORITE character Chillin who represents me so well. I don't need it published but it's a dream.

I am stuck with this age cause this game was so possible cause we allowed ages to slip (they had ages but they didn't count) so, anyone got advice how I can get around this?. Should I make ages and work on it... Or, can I do something so I don't have to worry bout ages so much?. I have 1 idea which I could use though it's going to be confusing to fit into the plot but I really don't want these characters to age much unless it's at the right time (sometimes they aged)..

So, I guess my question is, a story that has a lot of violence but good times as well, revolved around gang long but does include people with powers/aliens/weird creatures or shadow people things, if I wrote it correctly (which would take a lot of time) would it EVER be possible to actually publish something like this?.

Remembering all the things above and there with be some sort of plot to keep there ages still, they'd be allowed to age sometimes and at the end of the whole story, they age or near the ending I suppose. Plus, there would be under age stuff that would be mentioned because of the characters history's.

Or is it completely im possible to think something like this would ever be published?.

There are so many plots with this game. I have forgotten a lot since it's been over 4 years and I never wrote anything down but I remember plots here and there sometimes and I can always make new thing up.

    Any tips/advice would be great.

I'd read it. There's an audiance for pretty much anything, you just have to find a publisher aware of that audiance.

Turning a roleplay (it sounded my a roleplay, am I wrong?) into a novel isn't so terribly difficult. And the old movie wasn't terribly deep, no one really owns the copyright on the concept of second generation gang life. And it sounds like you have taken off quite a bit from the original storyline.

I would be more than happy to help you with this here and there, as a former roleplayer and circle writer myself. I woulld have to read the game to have a better idea of the story, but I recommend starting by working up the various character sheets as a reference in case you need to change something for plot reasons later. As you are working on novelizing this you are now in charge of this, you can change what you like.

The next thing would to make a list of big events in the game what could be pivital story points. Is this going to be a single book or a series? From ther you can break down chapters for leading subplots and character development, then work on rearranging pov posts for flow and coherency.

If any of that made sense?

I'm using a IPhone so bare with me, lol. I'm at work.

Yes, Im turning our RP into a story, I didn't think it would be to hard, kind of. There's just a lot of odd stuff in this strory to so I wasn't sure if it could be written and maybe one day published. Our story (I'm the one writting it, my friend has no interest in helping out) is very different from the original movie, The Warriors, only thing that is the same is there in Coney, they are blood related to The Warriors but that is it. I guess they couldn't be related to the real Warriors now though, lol.

I would love your help here and there!, you'd be a big help. By read the game, do you mean what me and my friend have written between us with our characters?. If so, that can be done. If I am wrong, what do you mean? Lol. Doing character sheets are a great idea!. I know everything about my characters so that will be easy .

I would like these story's to be on going, there are A few big plots in my head and certain characters who cannot be introduced till after the first big plot which would be the first book.

I was never sure if this book could be written because there is so a lot of things such as super natural creatures, racism, under age stuff (this stuff would not be written in detail ofcourse), the army, mafia. All this stuff is helping with the plots and why there will be many books. It's all been acted out between my friend be I, now it's just writing it all down.

Yes, I understood everything. Thanks for replying. Cant wait to hear from you again.

Yeah, if I'm on a computer I'm working on my novel- right now I'm on my droid XD.

You got me right, if you want I can give you my email and you can send me pieces of the rp you want some input on, or if its posted somewhere you can drop me a link.

Its true you probably wouldn't be able to mention the Warriors, or that the kids are their kids specifically, but there's no problem with you knowing it yourself.

Regarding content, lots of books contain the supernatural, racist crap, underage people doing stuff we'd really rather they didn't- such is life. Your characters don't represent you- you use them to tell a story, to make a point. Unless they do represent you, in which case I hope you have thick skin because even if it does get published you're going to get flak for the controversial stuff. And like you said, you don't have to introduce all the characters in the first book, bring them in as works best for the over all story. I look forward to the group finding out Zilch is an alien myself. If they ever do...

I'm not much into any of the above things you seem worried about- I'm more a fantasy/humor reader. I like Young Adult/lighter reads- but that might be a good thing, if you're worried how much you can get away with and/or how to rework something to get it across without upsetting too many people. (I have a story myself with a bit of iffyness to it, my friends tell me it could totally be published but I'm... well, we're usually our own worst critics.)

I'll leave the writing to you but drop me a pm if you ever want my take on something, or if you want my email addy.

A role-play is a rambling and unending adventure, which is exciting enough that it doesn't always need standard dramatic or story elements to keep it going. I think you'll have to keep this in mind as you write. The excitement you felt BEING there will have to be brought about in different ways for readers who can't be there, not in the same way you were anyway.

I'd recommend starting small, with one memorable scene or era from you and your friend's game. Keep it simple at first, so the project itself doesn't overwhelm you. Write a 2-10 page short that is its own story (has its own obstacles and victories) and introduces some of the world. Once that's done, and you're content with it, create another short that builds from it, but tells a new story and introduces new aspects of your world (which is pretty detailed, and will have to be introduced slowly to the reader to keep from shocking them out of immersion). Do this 10 or 20 times and you'll have a detailed episodic novel in 10-20 chapters .

I don't think there's anything that CAN'T work, but rather things that aren't worth the effort to make them work.

Oh, and on the concept of world-building (I love world-building) I assume you have scatterings of notes and etc. about the various unconventional elements (magic, sentient creatures). Setting up categories and relationships of these various elements is pretty important. Imagine it as if you were researching something in our world (iron-forging, superconductors, atom-smashers, feminists (ha! Adam smashers!), wars, etc.). These aren't things the reader always wants to see (I like seeing them) but they'll keep things stable so that even though it's not our world, things will still make sense for the reader.

And I think "Warrior Kids" is fine. You may have been inspired by The Warriors (cool movie!), but your idea is unique enough, and the word "warrior" common enough that you're in no way stealing somebody's creativity.

edit on racism: There's no problem at all with racism in books. Some of the most recognized and celebrated books of all time have racism (Merchant of Venice?). The key is making sure that A) the character or actions that are racist are suitable to that character or likely for those actions (South Park's Cartman?), and B) it is your character or your world that is being racist, and not the author (To Kill a Mockingbird vs. um... I don't read racist books so... Mein Kampf I guess?). If it is the author, it's like writing a rude poem about your grade 4 math teacher because she failed you on a test - extremely poor use of your skills.

I was kind of thinking this, kind of. I did realize we've had so many things happen, many plots over 4 years so I did understand things need to change a bit. So, I do plan on going through my notes and see what I think would be something worth adding to a book and what I need to add to actually build the characters up and the world around them. I knew this would be the hardest part! lol. See, there are things that do happen in the game which I think would interest people. I mean, over 4 years there had to be something! lol.

I don't fully understand what your saying here, i think. Are you saying to write up certain things that happen through out the story and slowly add them together. For example, there is a scene where Tunt (my character) meets Tret (friends) and they fall in love at one point, there's a bit of trouble before they get to know each ether. This is a important part of the story because of these two, the next few plots cannot happen without them!.

I truly feel like an idiot but can you explain yourself in a different way here?. I have a few small notes (not many) as it's all in my head. I'm not sure what your saying to set up since all these creatures and so forth all have a structure to why they came into the game, they never just 'popped' in, lol. I know you explained this probably very simply but I can be a idiot at times so could you explain what you mean in another way so I understand?. Thanks.

Have you seen the Warriors movie!? .

I don't read racist books ether, lol. It's just, I created some black characters and my friend created some Mexican characters and somehow a whole racist thing happened between these characters we made and this has made a big plot in the story we have. It didn't help my friend already had one racist character who was the leader of a gang (he was white) so it fumed when these other cultures came in. I am not racist at all!!. I just wanted you to know this, lol.

    Thanks for replying

Racism is tricky to play with, and might be best avoided, but if not just remember to pay attention to who you are giving power to, who you are making the aggressor, and who you are actually portraying stereotypes about. It's pretty delicate territory really.

What I mean about world-building is that you should have a scrapbook (if you pen it) or folder (if you type it) that has detailed information about the world your story happens in. Things like the natural ecosystems, the astronomy (or astrology), the general political structures, common and uncommon creatures, the religions, etc. Basically, if there is something that you can learn about in our world, a similar thing could be represented in a changed form in your world. The reader will only see tiny bits of this information, but knowing it will ensure you can write the tiny bits in a way the reader will feel is "right" for the world. Careful not to get addicted to world-building though. It's pretty easy to get lost in it and let the actual story fall to the wayside.

And what I mean by the episodes, is to take just one scene (as in your example, when Tunt meets Tret) and make it into a stand-alone story. Make it a fun and interesting story that describes their first meeting, but make it as if it is just one story, not a part of a larger story. Then, when it is good and you feel happy with it, make a second story taking place within the same world, and relevant to the same larger scheme of events, but still as its own stand-alone story. Because an RPG is essentially limitless, cutting it into chunks like this might help to isolate and identify the significant movements.

    Apologies if I sometimes don't make sense :p It's a weakness.

I posted in your thread about racism, thought I'd give this one a look.

I've done two college courses in games design, and fan games based off anything do not work.

    1. The companies who own the film/game that you're basing anything on, imediately have it removed or take legal action because it is an infringement of IP (intellectual property).
    2. Fans of the film/game that you're using as you're template will be annoyed that it might not fit in to their own specifications and favourite aspects of the film.
    3. You are stuck with a background and world that cannot change through production if you find a gap in the story.

These are just a few reasons that always destroy fan projects. I suggest you use the original aspects of your story and create a new world for them to interact in.
Do not give up on the project, but remove "The Warriors" from your mind while you create it.

That's pretty important advice, but I don't think she's at risk here. The RPG system she used owns the rules, and the Warriors (Universal? I don't know) own their starting storyline, but the story as they've played it seems to be (as so many tabletop RPGs are) of their own making. So although they can't be the kids of the Warriors street gang, they could be the kids of "a" street gang.

And although earlier I sided with keeping the name "Warrior Kids" I'll move over to Tom's advice and recommend changing it. The cool name can easily be replaced by another cool name with no connection to a franchise.

I do want to keep the name but I didn't think I'd be able to, I was ready to accept that, lol.

I have no idea what the story will be called when it's done but I will just have to think of another gang to relate them to.

Our game is completely different from The Warriors movie cause so many things are different and un-real as well. The only relation this game has to the game is the fact the kids were the sons of The Warriors (which wont be in the book, lol! but I can know that without publishing it) and there in a gang.

If it's a personally important name to you (that happens to me often with my stories) then you could also consider having them always refer to themselves informally as "warriors" much as how a lot of real gangs will call their various members soldiers, officers, enforcers, etc. Without anything else connecting you to the Warriors film, this provides no risky connection and is completely publishable.
