How do I write a good staring character?

Even the most interesting, thought out, and well-written of characters shouldn't be the sole focus of a story. This is because each character has a motivation independent of the author's favorite.

So how do I write a good story that focuses on a particular character while still having a cast of more than one?

Well, I suppose it would depend on how you're planning to write your story. Is it going to be in first person or third person? If in the first person, you can still develop minor characters through your main character's interaction with them. If in the third, then you have the ability to switch points of view a little bit easier.

In the story I'm working on I have two main characters and a slew of minor. Even though my story is going to be taking place within the two MCs' points of views, I am going to have a few scenes in some of the minor characters' views as well.

Everything is a little subjective here, and everyone is going to have their own techniques. Every reader and author has their own preferences and styles.

How to write like this is really a wide and abstract area that people here aren't going to be able to answer easily. What we work well with is writing itself; as in reading what you've written and offering feedback.

Anything else requires that we explain minor effects in detail, but that only contribute in a small way to the whole concept of 'good character development'.
