    The future

Ok the title may seem a bit odd sorry about that, but I was just wondering that if you where to make a book that included the future, and for some reason it's become very medieval like where they use swords, should you explain why in the book? Something like that it was the best possible option at the time etc.

I wouldn't explain. Show if you can.

Remember Planet of the Apes. Nothing is explained. The story unfolds and only at the end do we see him on the beach with the statue of liberty

Well, humans often feel the need for reason, but since your story is set 'after-the-fact' I wouldn't really brush too much on 'the how', but remember, this is YOUR story, so if you feel that talking about what happened prior will help your story, then go for it.

Another way is just to show the aftermath, you could by describing the surroundings of the future world - foundations of skyscrapers crumbled, skeleton remains of that old humanity. It's a hard thing to judge.

Reverting back to stone-age/bronze-age and so on, weapons its hard to picture. Take away electricity and this old world will grind to a techie-stop pretty quick.

remember though, YOUR story is in the future, what happened before is just a setting your world lives on.

best luck with this piece. I'm sure others will offering great advice.

sounds like a story to write.

As Shadows pointed out, remember to show also, too much tell and it ends up a documentary
