Thread: Help with my course work

my name’s Yaniv and I’m a student at Rotherham college and I’m studying the course of media and animation and game. One of the course units is writing for the screen where we look at scripts and one of the assignments is to research ideas and then write a script. For my research I need to conduct primary and secondary research.
I am writing this thread so I can conduct my primary. I have a basic idea for my script which includes the settings with no plot so if you can read my idea and think of anything that might help me I would really appreciate it.
The idea I had was set in the distant future and it is the year 2143 the world is united under one government. The world has advanced in some areas of technology and in others it has regressed. For example guns are not in use instead swords and bows are. The reason for this regression is because of magic which people have learnt that they can use. The people who use the magic are called mages and they are the ones who run the government. People who don’t use it are called normals and they depend on the mages so that they can live there care free, every day lives. In the society of mages and normal’s the are people with unexplained powers of precognition, teleportation, telekinesis or they are just too powerful with their magic that they don’t need the focus to channel there magic like the rest of the mages. The government calls these people Abnormalities. The government is hunting down them for unknown reasons.
This is my settings but I don’t have a plot but it would help me if you could thinks of anything to help me will be great. Also if you could point out any films and or books with similar government or magic settings it would be great

Well there used to be an rpg here that had some similarities to what you are describing. It was about a group of people with special powers that were on the run from the goverment. Maybe you could find inspiration in that. This is the link:

After reading your summary, I want to just blurt out that I'd obviously write about an Abnormal, who befriends a ragtag bunch of Normals, and thus draws attention to themselves through misadventures. BUT-what if you took up the point of view of a mage? Perhaps a mage who's tired of his job of performing (as he feels) worthless "tricks" to keep the Normal population. What if he hears that there is an Abnormal that has caught the government's eye and he sees this as an opportunity to really do legit magic? What would be the consequences of his actions?
