Would this work? Naturalistic western + symbolism

I'm planning a western novel, and I'm thinking in two opposing groups.

    1. A gang of bandits (bank robbing, train robbing... killing is also no problem). Some of them loosely based on historical figures.

    2. A four-membered group of bounty hunters who are after said gang. They're technically working for the law but just the same scum as their prey. Wherever they ride, desctruction, war and plague follows. It's hinted they're not human.

Now the question, would a bunch of anthropomorphic personofications fit into an otherwise normal, 60s-70s style, "dirty", naturalistic, deconstructionist western? Or should they get two different stories?

I am trying to think of a movie or book where this was done and can't....hummm....I don't know...I think it could be done...anything in the world of writing can be done with a good story and a great writer...don't you think?

You can do anything you want. It depends on how your write. If people buy into the characters... in other words if they are believable based on their backgrounds and personalities, then you can do what ever you want with them. As long as you do not make the character do something outside of their spectrum of behavior (unless forced to by outside stimuli)
