    Novel Idea

I'm looking to write a novel. Although I'm fifteen years old, I have been told many times that I have a gift for writing, and it is something that I enjoy very much. So far I've written only short stories and the like, but I'd like to delve into larger writings. My idea for a novel is fairly simple; show how a simple action can lead to much greater consequences. I was going to go about this by starting with a simple action, showing another persons perspective on the same incident, followed by the effect given in the form of a third person following of them. The plot would begin simplistically, but end with a something horrible such as a post apocalyptic scenario, cruel dictator coming to power, or something of the like. I was thinking one persons story per chapter (short chapters), and end with the original person's situation after the final event.

    Finally: My questions
    1. If written correctly, could this be a full length novel?
    2. Has a similar idea become a popular book?
    3. Would this be an interesting book, or would it lose the readers interest?

Thank you so much for your help

Hi Rev - Can you post one of your shorter short stories and let us get a sample of your writing? I only write non-fiction myself, but there are some first-rate fictioners here, published novelists, who can give you a lot of help.

In general I think it's a waste of time to second guess yourself before you've started. If you're gonna second guess yourself, might as well do it afterwards, when it's too late.

That said, my answer to #1 is, "Yes, provided you write it well." My answer to #3 is "Definitely interesting, provided you write it well." Not sure about #2. There's nothing that immediately springs to mind.

I think you should just go for it. Even if you don't end up with the greatest novel, you will learn a lot. You will have learned things you can only learn from actually writing. And you will have a much better grasp on the novel writing process for when you get around to writing novel #2.
