I know the difference when I see it, but I can't really define it, What is the difference between a joke, a piece of fiction and a lie?

I knew I shouldn't of clicked on this thread. Just when I thought I'd cleared the decks and could settle down to some serious writing. Why don't you join a philosophy forum and have all the pointy-heads battle it out?
I gotcha.
I joke is somewhat rhetorical. Unless the event perscribes an asshole telling it.
It is said without the idea that the person is to believe you, but instead should form their own opinion. such as whether it is funny or if they can relate.
A peice of fiction simply requires the teller to unsure the listeners that it is not 100% real, or use rhetorical tones to imply it. otherwise it is a lie
Missleading peopel with falsehood.
I suggest you switch on spell check, it would make your posts easier to read, I correct my mistakes by re-typing them rather than just clicking on them, it is gradually teaching me to spell properly, I think you hit the wrong letter with unsure, meaning insure, but shouldn't that be ensure, and add 'know' after 'listeners'? Unfortunately spell check can't help with things like that.
Maybe we could say a fiction "involves a shared suspension of belief"?

A lie is an unfactual statement or series of statements.
A joke is a funny lie, at least funny to the person who tells it.
A piece of fiction is a carefully orchestrated lie, which is sometimes published.

lol.. I still can only see two real error. unsure.. it is supposed to be ensure, spell check missed it. and I've never known how to spell piece. PICE. lol.
But I meant everything i said
otherwise it is a lie, not a joke, and not fiction.
Clearly i ddind't need spell check if you understood![]()

joke >> a fictional tale or anecdote ending with a "punchline" which reveals an unexpected interpretation or double meaning associated with a key word or phrase within;
piece of fiction >> an elaborately constructed or entertaining lie;
lie >> statement(s) containing deliberate untruth(s)
(I make the distinction here between untruthful and unfactual; an opinion can be without fact but still be a true opinion); or
the characteristics of the green which determine which way the little white ball will roll when putting.
