    Writing Styles

    Hey All

I was wondering what people think is the best way to write a Short Story or Novel (or any writing for that matter)

Would you just sit there and type living the story as you type it, or would you plan out the story/novel beforehand and take your time before writing?

    Cheers

Why don't you do one each way, and then decide which you preferred.

I second Ox's motion. Find your own answer, It's far more rewarding.

Planning is what I would suggest and what works for me. Yet, one could debate how much and to what detail is necessary. Others would say just sit and write and see what comes out.

Do what is right for you. If you're unsure, as was suggested, try writing short fiction using varying methods of preparation.

I agree with everything said above. Definitely try both ways and different things. Even though I found that I wasn't able to keep the story well designed and moving in the right direction without a basic outline, you might find you do best without one.

    Either way, good luck

There is only one way to write a story that has any chance of success whatsoever. If you do it different you wll fail. If you do it the right way you'll be rich and famous.
The right way is easy. Just read my book, "The Only Way To Write a Good Story", $39.95 amazon.com

Hey, if you can't afford it, just say so. We can work something out.

    You're such a smartass, Lin

But I definitely advise budding authors-to-be to buy said book. After all, there are a lot fo scams out there...

Writing is like sex: Do whatever gets the job done. Experiment often because you never know what might work better for you and sometimes a change of routines is just what you need. If something really doesn't work for you, no pressure; just try it a different way next time.

    That was my theory.

All great writers use exactly the same system and that is why a book or story written by one is exactly like a book or story written by any other great writer.

Take a random page from 'Ulysses' by James Joyce, a random page from 'Light in August' by William Faulkner, and a random page from 'The Old Man and the Sea' by Ernest Hemingway. Compare them carefully, and you will note that they are identical in style. So if the style of the finished product is the same, then the writing style that created the product must be the same.

Exactly. And they all buy the content from the same place, Acme LitBitz or Passaic, New Jersey.

    Lol, cheers for that.

I already do it both ways, I was just wondering which way other writers were writing.
