Not really in progress. More like in development .....

I had this idea and i want to share it on here and get some feedback and some help.

Ok, the idea -Gideon Myx is a cryptozoologist and he runs this private entity i want to call NFLMA (National Federation of legendary and mythical animals) Any name change suggestions acccepted. The organization is privately funded and staffed and lead by Gideon Myx who will have a team, probably an arms specialist, a demolitions expert and one or two other scientists. These guys are called in for threats that aren't normal (cryptids and such) I was thinking of having them based out of Devil's Tower.

My first idea with them was going to be that some Bio engineering company (Kent corp) managed to get their hands on some Dino DNA. With said DNA they have managed to bio-engineer a mythical creature called a Wyvern, a dangerous creature. I thought of having this company create and market thee creatures as a mercenary army and sell them to high bidders..

Anyway, i wonder what you think of the idea and what suggestions, if any, you might have to flesh this out some more. This is as far as i got and i could use some help in trying to figure out what this Bio company would do with these wyverns. Heck, i even toyed with the idea of making a two stepprocess where the creatures are created and then human experimentation follows, the company tries to splice this creature with hman beings.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Overall, it sounds like something that could work. The one thing that jumped out at me as I read the summary, though, was that "an evil bio-tech company got some dinosaur DNA". That's been done...and done...and done. I think it would be more original if the bio-tech company were able to manufacture the wyverns either from scratch or from a mix of other DNA. Just not dinosaurs. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with it.

Yes, that is a good idea. Too much like Jurassic Park the other way and i realized it as i read the post back to myself. Maybe they find a combination of different DNA samples they have and they come up with the Wyvern, not knowing what they were going to get when they spliced it up. Now all i need is a purpose for the manufacture and what the company can do with them once they can produce them.

I envisioned a scene where a soldier in some forested area comes back from recon to find all his squad laying dead at the campsite. Then he runs away and will, of course, be hunted and killed by the Wyverns. This would serve as a field test for the creatures and then i can go from there and introduce the main character and so on.

But i still need an ultimate purpose and terrorism is always the first one that i come up with ..... Any other suggestions are welcome .....

First of all, I really loved that name. The actual acronym is a bit messy but it is made up for by the lovely, rounded, full-lipped name in all it's glory. I had a go myself. The best I could come up with was:

National Institute for the Maintenance of Paranormal Flora and Fauna

    or

NIMPFF (pronounced nymph only with a P in it).

Now, I'm not so keen on bio-engineering a mythical creature. It does sound too much like Jurassic park. It's not that I don't think that you have a different slant to it or that it would nessesserily be worse than Michael Chrighton's most famous novel. I actually believe that it is a good idea when writers explore topics that have already been written about. Having said that, I would worry that a piece that is close to something as popular as Jurassic Park might be overshadowed somewhat with comparisons between the two.

What I'd like to see (and this is just me of course, join me on a journey through my mind but watch your footing because I've not cleared up in a while):

A creature that we thought was mythical (but turns out to be magical) is inadvertently created when a fast food research and development department stumbles across the secret potion that creates it, whilst searching for a better burger relish.

    ...But that's just me.

If you think you have something and have a passion for writing it then go for it. You've got some good ideas there and if they are refined slightly you can come up with some original concepts off the back of them.
