Why does he need to be one or the other? What value is added to the story in slotting him into either category?

I'll ditto Valeca. Character doesn't need to be pigeonholed so don't bother and let the reader make up his/her mind whether or not your character's the 'good' or 'bad' guy. But it doesn't matter anyway, so just write him.

Co-signing...everybody's got elements of both "good" and "evil" (quotes because both are relative) and that's what makes for interesting three-dimensional characters that readers will get attached to.
    ...you can never be sure
    you die without knowing
whether anything you wrote was any good
if you have to be sure don't write

I think it depends on why he's been banned from bothe Heaven and Hell. To have been banned from one or the other would tell us soemthign about his character, but both? Having said that, he's might be a good person, (saving the suicidal), but he might be evil (exploiting the mentally unstable suicidal.) See, that's why we need a little more info.

But, like Valeca said, why does it mater? Why do you want to label him good or evil?

This story, with its spelling error-ridden synopsis indicates that it is not deep enough to 'let the reader decide', so here it is, black and white:

    Evil. Just evil.

"Don't die now! Join me and die in a war instead! At least do something useful!"

Just exploiting them for his own gain. In fact, he sounds very Hitler-esque. A megalomaniac dictator who wants to go to war, out of revenge. Why do the humans that join him care about this, out of interest? What's in it for them? A guy who sets out to start a war (multi-million deaths) against HEAVEN can hardly be considered a gentleman. It's selfish, really. Very selfish and very brutal. HOW he can be considered 'good' is beyond comprehension.

Good and evil are just words. I'm more curious how he managed to get banned from both Heaven and Hell and how he plan on killing both god and the Devil. You did say he was human, right? And what does me mean with "revenge" for being banned? Did he want to go to Hell or something?
