Special Call for Submissions

We are currently working with UK writer and artist Lucie Barat on a very special anthology in support of the charity 'MIND'.

The project's working title is "An Expression of Depression" with all proceeds going to the charity.
Mind (National Association for Mental Health)

The aim is to de-stigmatise depression, being very careful not to glamorize it in any way. The book is to be a collection of photo's, drawings, poems, lyrics or short prose.

"A collection of expressions from people with emotional wounds"

From Lucie's website:

"Having spent years in and out of various institutions, I wanted to do something for the charity MIND because there is such stigma attached to depression and mental illness. Also having spent years as a struggling writer/actress/musician, I wanted to help 'artists', as many of them have suffered and would be able to express their experiences articulately."

"This would also be giving talented people who haven't been lucky enough to get a 'break' a chance to get their work seen. This book has donations from successful as well as less lucky talent. All of them have suffered in varying degrees from depression, anxiety or some form of mental illness."

We are encouraging submissions from writers, poets, lyricists and artists who have suffered depression or other mental illnesses, and are interested in work that explores the subject.

Here is Lucie's orginal call for submissions at her band's myspace page

Myspace.com Blogs - SUBMISSIONS REQUIRED FOR BOOK...... - the fay wrays MySpace Blog

There has already been some interest from a publisher, so we ask that you send in your submissions quickly.

Submissions should be forwarded to us at mind@vagabondagepress.com with "MIND" in the subject line.

Thanks for your time.

Could people submit under pen names (such as Swamp Thing?)

I'm sorry that it's taken so long to get back to this - yes - if you click through to Lucie's write up (which I posted, hesitant to put words into her mouth), you may certainly use a pen name - but I think using Swamp Thing might cause the editors to take your entry less than seriously.

From what I've seen, there are some excellent poets, artists and writers on board, the one common denominator being a struggle with their depression or other disorder.

Please read Lucie's write up for particulars.

Did that, looks interesting. However, I think that Swamp Thing is a handsome moniker and one taken with the utmost seriousness by all who are graced with my presence online and in the swamp (I'll use a different name).
