Line by Line Critique Tool

I wrote a program to make line by line critiques a little bit easier. I'm just starting to learn javascript, so it's pretty simple.

Here is the link Critique Generator.

What's pretty simple? Javascript? Or do you mean that your program is just basic?

PS: Javascript is a real b**tard to learn. Took me ages to get to grips with it, and I still don't know everything.

Congratulations.

Sam.

Sorry about the unclear instructions in the program.

Step 1, you paste the story you want to critique in the text box. Press Submit.

Step 2, you can click on the paragraphs you want to add a comment on. A text box will appear under the paragraph. You can type your comment there. You can do this with all the paragraphs. Once you finish. You press "Translate to forum code". There's also an optional checkbox, which will delete the paragraphs you didn't comment on from the final display.

Step 3 displays the critique in forum code. The story will be in a quote box. And your comments will be wrapped in bold tags. You just copy that and paste it into the reply boxes.

Sorry, I meant the program is simple. Took me forever to get it to work on both IE and Firefox and Safari. I don't know enough javascript to create a rich text editor, which was something I wanted to implement. I know some people like to color codetheir comments.

Actually I just realized how useless the program is. Ha ha. I forgot about the enhanced reply box which is a rich text editor. I'd been using the basic reply box and applying bold tags by hand. So that basically renders the program useless. Oh well, I did learn a lot of javascript. I plan to continue my enhanced version even though it won't make critiquing easier.

I recommend checking out jquery or prototype as javascript libraries that handle the cross-browser crap for you

Thanks for the tip kaolin. The cross-browser stuff really slows development down. Right now I'm trying to rebuild the wheel and work from scratch and reverse engineer some of the things I see. I think that's a good way to learn, though redundant and useless. Like my attempts to build a rich text editor for my critique program, have been a lot of work for a something that does something so simple. Plus half way through I figured out how tp make the code more efficient and reusable.
