A proposition to aspiring Sci-Fi and Fantasy writers
I'm a Scifi and Fantasy freelance illustrator and an artist. I have a gallery of my art work where each image has its own page with a description of the image. These descriptions are short and practical, so I was wondering if anybody here would be interested in writing a tiny fictional story inspired by the image. Such story could read like an excerpt from a real story/book that the image illustrates. The tiny story should be 200 - 300 words.
The purpose of these stories is to get the visitor's mind stimulated in a way that only a writer can do. I have a feeling that my own descriptions are simply boring for most people. Some people are highly visual but I think most are not, so a short story would help see the image in an expanded way.
I do not offer any payment for this. However I will credit you and include a link to your website below each story. I get around 2500 visitors daily so this will help you get more exposure. You will also be free to use the image on your website, should you wish to use it to visually enhance your site. Here is how the credit line will look like: (placed below each story)
"The above short story was written for this image by the SF/Fantasy author <your name>. To learn more about the author visit his/her website at: <name and a link to your personal site>"
Please don't ask me to link to commercial sites.
If you are interested please email me your short story and a link to your website. If I get multiple stories for an image I will choose the one I like best. Please do not be offended if I don't choose your story.
The following images need a tiny story:
Sci-fi images
X2 flight
Alien mind
They came from the sky
Space travelers
Chase
Colony
Fantasy images
After the battle
Mystic
Bloodthirst
The executioner
I'm looking forward to your responses. And my email address is dm@eonworks.com

Hey, I like the way you do that. The whole scheme. I'm bookmarking it. I've never even attempted writing Sci-Fi, though I read a lot of the more obscure authors. I have a good friend who is published. I'll send him the link.
I'm so tired I can't think straight enough to spend too much time looking at tit tonight, at least I caught the bookmark. GL, thanks for posting this!
Edit: 300 words hmm...If I find time and none of these other awesome people beat me too it, I sure do like that one "BloodThrist".
Wicked art!

Excellent artwork, David. And a way cool idea. This parallels a project I'm setting up. I'll be in touch.
How are you "linking" or "presenting" the stories with the artwork?
To flip this around, would you consider doing artwork to illustrate a story?

The story will be shown above the gallery image, just where I have my descriptions now. The link to the writers website will be shown below the story as I described in my original post.

Sure I may consider it if your site would offer me similar benefits like large exposure in terms of visitors and a link to my site.

Nice art, and I like the idea, and may even take the offer on one of the Sci-Fi images.
But one thing I need to know, what exactly what kind of story do you want on them?

The story should reflect the image in some way. For example one of the images is called "Alien mind" and it illustrates an alien on board an alien spaceship, telepathically operating a holographic device. So the story could be about the ship and what the alien is doing there, his motives, nature, his enemies, the atmosphere on the ship, alien technology, etc, etc.

Hello Dawid. Small world!
Folks, let me say a word about Dawid...I recently hired this young graphic illustrator to produce the cover art for a sci-fi book that will be released next month. I supplied him with an excerpt from Chapter 5 and allowed him complete artistic freedom. The result exceeded my wildest expectations and working with him was pleasure. He is very honest...keeps any promises he makes. I strongly endorse this young man.
I'll be in touch soon, Dawid!

Just wanted to post a quick update to this thread. I received captions for all Fantasy images and I put the first one online. I think Jaq did a great job with The Executioner. The SciFi images are still available so if anybody is interested feel free to go for it
