Mike -

I'd be up for lending a hand. Not sure how, though. Slusher, I guess.

Sounds like a fun idea. I'd be interested in slushing a bit.

There will be poetry. Possibly even art.

Eeewwwww. Well, just as long as there isn't any performance art.

I like the idea of anonymous rejections, by the way. That way nobody would know who it was who got rejected and not have to feel bad about it. Perhaps they could also be made random?

I'm interested--I'll probably end up slushing, I suppose--but it would really depend on the time involved. Much like Modest Me, I lack a life, but on the other hand, have a book to edit for publication, and am about to swing into high gear on my own writing. But I honestly enjoy trudging through slush, literary and wintery.

I've been down the route of personalised, detailed rejections before, and it just leaves the door open for no-talent fuck-wits to launch a personalised and detailed rant against the person rejecting. Plus, this is a relatively small community; people often feel pressurised and stressed when they have to reject somebody that they interact with regularly on the forum. Being faceless just makes things easier for everyone.

Performance art? Paint yourself silver and video yourself dancing like a chicken, Lin, and we might reconsider. You know you want to...

Thanks Modest, duly noted.

We also need a name, guys. Start thinking, but keep it to yourself for the minute.

i'd like a shot at a copy editor or slusher--whichever you need most, let me know if you need an out of date resume

I'm interested.

I wouldn't mind trawling through stuff correcting odd things. Sounds interesting.

Since I'm new, I feel I should offer to just slush around, but I'd prefer to be an editor. Either is fine, really. This thing is a great idea, so I'd like to do my part to get it off the ground.

If copy editors actually edit the piece, what do editors do aside from act as advanced slushers?

I wasn't sure if the publication would go the route of 'I like this, but could you please rewrite this?'

I'm busy with writing and family, but I don't mind pitching in along the slusher/editor front or, possibly, offering artwork. I've been told by professional editors that I'd be good for the job (one asked me to proof her work, which flattered me to no end). I did work as an editor for a high school poetry and art publication, but I don't think that counts for much--other than experience having to tell perfectly nice poeple that you didn't think their work made the cut.

On rejections, form are easy and anonymous but completely unhelpful. Would it be possible for slushers to receive the pieces without access to the author's name and make comments for "close but not quite" pieces?
