Okay, at the risk of sounding harsh, what the hell good does this do? It doesn't even make sense! For £1 I can have what? A page (Just one!) in a published book! What good is one page? I've got a novel I want published. It's a hell of a lot longer than one page! Pardon me, but this sounds like a load of crap.
Sam.

Well then clearly its not a good idea for you...
However for short stories, poetry and the such.. it is.

You still haven't cleared anything up for me. Whose book will this page be published in?

Ok i'm a little unclear as to why your inquiring this as like you said, you want a whole novel published.
I thought the subject 'collaborative' would have suggested to you that its not going to be a collaboration of novels..
But all the same..
It's collaborative creations book. It will showcase unsigned talent and have a reference page where, if people choose to, there will be contact information so anyone interested in their work can find out more.
The purpose is not to have your whole work published.. but an extract to help you get some recognition. It's a chance for people to show off what they can do.

I've just looked at your site - you're asking for £1 for each page you print. When you've reached your quota of one-hundred pages (?) you'll then print it. The book will then be available on your website to buy. But you won't try to sell it - it's up to us to do that.
No offence, but this isn't 'published' by any stretch of the imagination. You're merely printing the book and putting it on your website. Will it have an ISBN number? Will it be available in Barnes and Noble or Amazon.com? If not, then you can't say it is a 'published' book.

Okay, now that you've explained it a bit better, I can see what you're trying to do. Who will you be submitting this 'collaborative book' to?
Sam.

You'll need to let people know what publishers or editors will see this book. You need to tell people that it will have an ISBN number.

I know. Mike's gonna blow his top when he sees this. Maybe you should delete it, Strangedaze?
Just kidding. That would take away the fun - Mike's pretty funny when he's mad.

So the bottom line is that you want me to pay you to publish my work? Like, I pay you, and for that I get one page in a book that you will sell in on line shops and make a profit from (which I won't have any claim to... provided you can sell such a book at all that is; I don't think there's a huge market for excerpts). Is that about right?
And those who put into it get what back, exactly? Recognition, you say? If by that you mean scads of editors/agents are going to rush out to buy your book (because two to three thousand manuscripts running across their desk isn't quite enough), read a one page excerpt and say, "Oh man, I have to get a hold of that writer!" then I'm sorry to say, but that's not going to happen. Even if you're talking Joe Q Public, I highly doubt there'll be a big demand for a 'reference book' full of excerpts from unknown writers.
Think I'll pass.

Well, lofty dismissals and unimaginative insults aside, i hadn't realized that I would be met with such impotent rage and flaccid frustration.
This idea was in its essence, a chance for writers to have short pieces or extracts of their work professionally printed along side other interesting and creative concepts for their own and others enjoyment.
I had envisioned a slightly less hostile response as all i was doing was giving a platform that i would have appreciated myself.
My posting here was to not only drum up interest but also to receive constructive criticism, not offers of fellatio.
I felt that those unable to find full publishing would appreciate seeing their work professionally compiled. Some of us like to write for pleasure and not just profit. In regards to payment made, the majority of it would be going back into the project to fund further anthologies and a more impressive array of services.
This was a brand new concept which may need some reworking but i see that i am unlikely do get much in the way of intelligent, articulate and polite help on these boards.
ps. good luck convincing someone to consider your respective works, though I'm sure with such willing personalities and dramatic flairs of interpersonal skills, you will have absolutely no problems.

All hostility aside, it does seem a bit over the top. I really don't want to pay anyone to print my work, especially one page. What if I send crap? Then I blacklist my name forever. If my work is good enough it will get published and if it isn't then it will fade into obscurity where it belongs, only to be read by my poor family and friends and if I am desperate enough, I can get the whole novel published for a few hundred dollars. Do one for free, and if you get a big enough response then go the monetary route.
