Very handy sites if you're trying to make money

Hey guys! I haven't been posting much on the forums, mostly because I've found a few sites that were handy to me in my writing.

one is for freelance writers and hiring people - Guru
the other is for article writing and online publishing - Associated Content

Both of these sites pay writers! Guru is for projects, and associated content is for articles of anytime. You can submit really easily, and if they accept you can get paid upfront and with a performance-based bonus. I think it goes this way--for every 1000 people who read your article, you get $1.50.

Here are a few more sites that I know about, but haven't tried.

Helium
Contant Content

It would be great if anyone wants to post any more sites they find helpful. I have yet to find anything similar for creative writing and poetry type stuff, unfortunately. I think AC--associated content--publishes poetry and prose but with no upfront payment.

Lightbulb Helium

Thank you for the tips. I subscribed to the Helium site for a while but couldn't really devote enough time to it to make money. The pay, on the face of it, is abysmal! However, I know people who have written frequently for the site for several months and as their portfolio of articles has built up, so they have made more money. I think the secret is to plod away at it and it will bear fruit. I didn't have the time or the inclination (but that's just me!). If you want writing tips for more conventional outlets, try this site THIS WRITING BUSINESS It's very good for beginners.

$1.50 for every 1000 articles read? Abysmal doesn't even come close to describing that! Your article mightn't even get 100 hits.

Sam.

I used Helium for a while as well. My articles just sit there now though and I seldom visit, let alone write on it. I have had a few payments from them in the last 2 years although only totalling about $75. I tell people it's good for practice but don't expect to earn anything substantial. It's still a far better payer than Shvoong though!

Yeah, I think mostly people make money from upfront payment. The $1.50 thing really is a small amount, but yeah, it's a starting point.

It appears to me that if you're someone who has the number of posts that lin does, you can get people to pay you $10 a month for a link in your sig.... (I'm not saying that's allowed here, but it is in some forums like "digital point"

I think there's probably better money in posting messages than in writing articles.

Sorry.

It is much more profitable to just put the articles on your own site with adsense and some other affiliate links. Why give it to them when you could make more money yourself?

Jeez, Steve, I didn't realize I had 3000 posts here until you mentioned it. Whoa: that's kind of disturbing. Wonder how many productive articles that would add up to?

By the way, my signature is hereby for rent.

I agree, Flash. Except for a really flagship site like about.com where they are paying you a "salary" for posting articles. But that's pretty elite stuff, and they are picky.

I just signed up for Guru, and while it allows free members to try and find work, there is not a single piece of work on that site available for people who don't pay, as far as I can see.

That's not a starting point, that's an embarrassment. Is that how small a value you place on your time and work?

The trick with sites like Asociated Content is that you can post content you've posted already elsewhere, so it's just extra. With many writers using articles to market themselves, the value is as much in the links within the articles as it is in the few pennies you collect from the site. If you're prolific, and have multiple places like this to also post, and outsource your posting, why not do it?

There's also Amazon Turk, which also pays but not great, it also has value to find people to do work for you.

Sue, you hit it right on. I never post my articles on the various article sites until they have been indexed on my own site. Once they have been, I rework them a touch and put them on the various article sites to get free backlinks and traffic.
