Post The Baby Name Googler...

I don't know about you, but I am a very picky person when it comes to what I am going to name my characters and what is behind the name. As nice as it is to have a name that stands for what the character represents, sometimes I feel like I want the complete opposite, so instead of coming to name by my own devices I google 'baby names' and visit whatever pages pop up.

The dilemma posed, is that each website has a listing of names a mile long and each name is it's own separate link. What I need is a beautifully laid out chart with name, common gender, meaning and origin. Of course, this strikes me as being very lazy and cliche.

I once thought to create this list but I find I want names for certain projects which wouldn't work for others, and the circle completes itself.

In fact some of my favourite pieces, I chose the name off the top of my head. This doesn't happen too often and it is alot of energy wasted as when I feel like writing. I don't have time to prance around imagining a name, a character and a persona, which is why I mainly write short stories, less of a long term commitment. I also find that they are often filled with more passion and ... well, basically a better plot. I am not a person who drags things out, thus my name dilemma.

I wish I had time to write all day long, then I could take the time and develop a name and a character etc.

But in the meantime, I am a baby name googler and thats the way it will be.
