Online Writing Workshops
Hi,
I'm new here, and I just wanted to pass this information along. It's not spam!
Second Life is a 3-D virtual world where Amazon.com hosts interactive events that connect authors and readers.
Join the Second Life group named Warren Adler Fans for reminders before each event.
The hour-long events will take place on Thursdays at 3 p.m. EST/Noon PST from February 21st to March 20th.

Tell me this is a joke?
Isn't second life that place where people go to pretend to be foxes and indulge in group masturbation?

You would think there would be a more helpful place to stage writing workshops than Second Life.

Oh, for Christ's sake, the blatant elitism is really getting on my nerves today.
Is Second Life the kind of thing that appeals to me? No. But it's a hell of a large, interactive community, and there are far worse places to have a writing workshop for those who really want to be a part of it; in fact, I can't think of many better. Amazon and others host events there for a reason.
As for Warren Adler, he's been a successful writer for a long time and he also likes to give aspiring writers the benefit of his experience. If he was coming to host a workshop on here, we'd be salivating.
Let's all get over our collective self, shall we?

From my experience, it's just a massive amount of people pretending that little pixel people are real people, with girlfriend and boyfriends and lives to make up for various shortcomings. I tried it some time ago, and my girlfriend tried it not too long ago. She was hit on 24/7 for simply being a female taking part in an "interactive community".
Sure, it's not like that for everyone, but it sure draws out quite a few creeps.

You just described the entire Web. It's what we make of it, and if a bunch of people use Second Life to attend a writer's workshop, more power to them. That's all I'm saying.
P.S. I almost made the exact same post to jacob.

Little bit of friendly advice, Jacob: I think you should leave statements like that to the moderators. It's their job, after all, not yours. BTW, I'm not being harsh.
Onto the subject. If this Second Life stuff works, fair play to it, but I don't think I'll be joining any time soon.
Sam.

Uh... I should have clarified. I excised the spam from Jacob's post and replaced it with that message.

Damn. It makes more sense now, but it killed the comedy.
