Call for online submissions - UNCW's lit. journal
Ecotone, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington's national literary journal, has recently launched an online companion, which is currently publishing some of the best writing on the web.
We are currently seeking submissions (short prose & poetry) for our current literary series, "Addiction as Ecotone," the invitition to which can be viewed here.
As the editor for the online companion, I'd like to officially welcome people to send us your work. Check out the site, read some of the tremendous writing we're currently offering, and send us something brilliant if you have material that matches our theme.
Best,
David HG

Also, check out Ecotone's website to see our current $1,000 writing contest, the description for which follows:
In Spring 2009, Ecotone will publish a special issue celebrating the bicentennial of Charles Darwin’s birth and the sesquicentennial of the publication of The Origin of Species. We are now accepting submissions in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction for the Ecotone Evolution Contest, which will creatively reflect the subject of evolution. The reading period is October 15, 2007 – April 15, 2008. One Grand Prize winner will receive a $1,000 honorarium, a limited-edition chapbook of the winning manuscript, and publication in Ecotone’s Spring 2009 “evolution” issue. Two runners-up will receive chapbooks of their manuscripts and publication in Ecotone. The contest entry fee is $15 per manuscript.
Please visit Ecotone: Reimagining Place for the full contest guidelines.

Bet it was frustrating when you found out you had to have those ten posts before you could spam us with the links.
1 post per minute. Not bad, but I've seen better.

Do you consider pointing writers to a literary journal / small press spam, particularly for an active writer who plans to participate in the community? Hmmm...I don't.
And I agree with you -- there are online journals out there that simply brilliant, Diagram and failbetter.com among them. However, ours is first-rate as well. Perhaps you'd like to try your hand at submitting to our "not bad" site?
Best,
DHG

No, I was talking about the fill-in links you used to start with, very quickly followed by the 1-post-per-minute welcomes in the Intro section 'til the quota for posting links on WF was met, then the fixing of the actual links back here. It draws the wrong sort of attention.

Ah, well to clean up the post without it having ridiculously long html threads, I did post, as per the rule (the merits of which can be debated). And since I needed to post 10, I chose to send welcomes to other new members, which I thought a nice way to meet the 10-post requirement.
What I found distasteful was your quick, judging response to a new community member promoting his literary work. If you've grown cynical as a manager, I can understand. But such messages should perhaps be privately sent, no? Particularly since my post is more than reasonable, if not valuable.
Best,
David HG

I'm a big fan of the university lit journal (my first ever short was published in one!) but e-journals, less so; my experience is they tend to get viewed, rather than read. Either way, good luck with it.
You'll have to excuse our hair-trigger response to your posts; the general experience here is that too many people hit and run with advertising, never to be seen again.

Thanks Mike, I understand, and hope to become involved in the forum.
As for online lit. journals, I tend to agree with you to some extent. However, many brilliant online journals are changing that landscape, even with the (regardless of how you view them) "Best of" series. (Online poems are making their way into the series.)
Thanks for the note, Mike.
Best,
David
