Can't go wrong with no entry fees. Well, you can, theoretically, but thanks for posting this. I might send in a little ditty or two.

I was very interested in this until I hit the part about "get your friends to vote for you". I have zero interest in entering a contest that will be one by the twit who has the most friends on myplace. That's not a contest, it's a poll. You get shit winners that way, even if it builds your mailing list.

Re: Voting

Hello lin,

Thanks for your remark.

I would like to point out to you that the winners will not be decided by the votes. My primary intention for this contest is to publish quality stories. The votes will hold some weight in the final decision, but I will not allow popularity to outweigh quality. I'll make it more clear in the guidelines.

The reason for the voting stage (aside from inviting people to sign up -- yes, we are of course desirous of that outcome) is to estimate our readers' tastes as far as themes, styles, pairings, etc. I would like to gauge, for example, how many readers value supernatural stories over historical settings. But if there's a difference in quality between two such stories, the more talented writer will win, not the more popular. Don't forget that only the best 15 stories will make it to the voting stage.

I hope you consider submitting a story. Of course The Naked Edge is looking for readers, but we're looking for readers with a good taste, and writers with a talent that will satisfy it. There's a reason we chose "Desire" and "Quality" as our key concepts.

Cheers and merry Christmas,

~ Sparrow
