Would you use it? Really?
Hi everyone,
Just a quick question - I am a web developer but I am starting to write what I hope one day will be a novel in my spare time and I was looking at all the tools for writers that are available.
So I was wondering, if I created a web site (or web "application") that allowed you to basically manage and write your novel or story online - something that allowed you to keep ideas and write chapters and notes from anywhere with internet access...would you really use it?
Its kind of a cool idea, but because of its online nature would it appeal?
If there are enough people that would use it, then I will make it....

There already is one: Google Docs. It's free to use, has a word processor and spreadsheet and let you store up to 5GB or so. (although each document has to be 500kb or less). I use it to keep backups of my documents and even write from there from time to time. 
So yeah, I vote Maybe. I already have one, but wouldn't mind a more advanced version or being allowe to save bigger documents.

I voted "maybe". Knock my socks off, darn them, embed magical chemicals in them, and ... maybe. Presuming it was all magically unobtrusive, worked exactly the way I thought, and really added some value in all that outside of my current process, which is to use a text editor, locally.
I'm not a fan of webapps that try to replace deskapps, unless there's some intrinsic value in their remote accessibility (some social aspect, or something I'm likely to need from multiple points where a simple laptop won't suffice, ...)

I know what you mean. I have been wanting to continue writing my novel for days, yet I spend all my time here. *sigh* I miss typewriters.
