Poetry.com
So I got an email from them today saying that my poem made it into the finals, but I have a feeling that I actually just got a spam email sent out to everyone who submits an entry.
Has anyone else entered and received this notification?

Poetry.com is the first site novice poets go to display their works. Its totally a scam, and if you really care about your art, don't waste it on that site.

Good, then I wasn't totally off. I wasn't going to give them any money no matter what. Thanks for backing me up!

They used to send out tangible legit-looking letters. I got one when I was 14, and it took me 10 minutes to convince my mom not to frame it. I guess their scam isn't raking in the cash like it used to.

I actually sent in a piece to them once. It was just random garbage. It was hilarious to receive a letter in the mail saying it was accepted for publication.
It's the biggest scam I've ever come across.

Yeah, I got a letter a few years back when I submitted a poem. Considering I suck at poetry I was like 'what?' My old step sister, apparently was caught by the scam when he was eleven.

I actually posted a story I submitted to these guys in File 13. Judging by the horrible quality of the poem, which I wrote at 13, I was amazed to recieve two letters telling me how "impressed" they were with my work and wanted to publish it. I just had to buy their collection book at like $40.00 in order to see it in print. Pure rubbish. Any self-respecting publisher will send you a contributer's copy.
They also wanted to send me to Washington D.C. for an award ceremony for my "magnum opus." The catch? Pay them $500 for travel and board. What a bunch of crooks.
Though I think they have a new scam up. I recently sent them a poem of better quality just for the kicks, and they promptly rejected it. Funny thing is they constantly send me the same rejection letter urging me to resubmit. Either they "pretend" that they reject since the jig is up on them, or they're waiting to send me a letter saying: "Hey, you've been rejected a lot, I think you'll benefit from an online workshop!"
Con artists.
