Call For Submissions - Flash
Every Day Fiction is looking for very short (flash) fiction, of 1000 words or fewer. There’s no such thing as too short— if you can tell a story in 50 words, have at it!
All fiction genres are acceptable, and stories that don’t fit neatly into any genre are welcome too. While personal experiences and other non-fiction can be great sources of inspiration, please turn them into fiction for us, or send them elsewhere.
Our readership is adult, so children’s stories are unlikely to be accepted unless they are relevant to adults as well. On the other hand, we are not impressed by gratuitous sex and violence, or pointlessly foul language; edgy content should be necessary and appropriate to the plot and characters.
It ought to go without saying that any story submitted to Every Day Fiction must be your own unpublished original creation.
The magazine is coming in September but accepting submissions now. We will be publishing one story every day, so you're not likely to wait in the queue for long. As a plus, we give personal feedback and right now, we're averaging a 4 day turn around time.

Duh? Their submission page says they pay.
Something about this strikes me wrong. I'm not sure what and wouldn't argue it, but my years of feelance trained reflexes smell a rat. But what the hell, downside is submitting like one short piece and it goes bad.
And it could be something cool.

I know what you mean, but I think it's legit. As to gow long it lasts... They pay a buck a story (with the option to donate it back), publish a story a day, total outlay (excluding hosting) $365 a year max, divided by 3 staff. Sustainable.
But they don't say... if they publish a story a day, does it only appear for one day? Get archived?

The fact that he is an anonymous internet person who registered an account just to post this ad?

At this time, we are able to offer one dollar for each published story, to be paid via PayPal, with the option to donate it back to Every Day Fiction if you are so inclined.

...oh.
So the only way to earn more than a Mexican dishwasher is to write six or seven stories an hour.
Still, I guess you could say you were published...

I get the whole crappy dollar payment, but it's not bad for a beginner to at least "feel" published.
Why must we be stereotypical...Not all Mexicans are dishwashers!

That actually happens at a lot of writing forums all the time. Some people are serious about starting a publication and others are not... you just have to do some research and decide if you want to give them something to work with.

There are a lot of places to publish your work that do not even pay anything... you say you are in this for the art so what does it matter to you if the guy pays a dollar or a hundred dollars?

Wow, ClancyBoy and lin I can feel the love.
To answer your questions:
Yes, we're legit. We "only" pay a dollar, but that's not really our philosophy, in fact that kind of thinking is wrong-headed these days. What do you make per hour even at the Pro Markets? My last pro sale netted me $350 for like 40(?) hours of work. that's um... the $8/hour figure mentioned above. No one makes money in short fiction these days. What you SHOULD be concerned about is promoting your work that DOES make money, and that's where Every Day Fiction comes in.
Think of your flash story as an ad for your writing. We post a link and a small bio at the end of each story we publish. We have over 250 subscribers so far, and we open in September. That's a lot of potential traffic that could be going to your personal sites/blog. We will also sell your books for you.
Writers are always looking for ways to promote themselves and this is a great way to do just that.
How do we make money? Well, we all volunteer our time and we're going to be ad supported. What money we make from these will go to covering our costs and offering contest prizes.
As for rights, we ask for 1 year exclusives then archive them unless the author asks that we take them down. We also ask for an 18 month option on Anthology rights, which if exercised nets you another buck.
And for crying out loud, it's a FLASH story, not the keys to your house. Clancyboy and lin... are you so starved for ideas that taking a risk on one 500 word story would kill you? Maybe I'm too innocent, but I can't even see where there COULD be a rat...

Sorry lin, didn't read your post fully.
Go to the site. It's going to be something cool. I guarantee it.
