Question book publishers and email queries

I have been able to find a number of lists on the internet of AGENTS who accept email queries but have not had the same success as far as book publishers are concerned. Does anyone know of such lists? Thank you.

The only book publishers that accept unsolicited email queries are small press. Go for the agents first, small press publishers as a last resort.

Thanks, Mike C, for the quick reply. As far as the small publishers are concerned, is there a list somewhere of those that accept email queries or must one go through each of their websites individually? Thanks.

Try Writers Market or Writers & Artists year book. You'll find one or the other in your library depending on which country you come from.

Thanks again, Mike. You mention Writers Market or Writers & Artists year book but you didn't mention whether you thought there would be a list of small press publishers that accept email queries in those publications or whether one would have to go through each and every press entry for that information.

You'll have to do the leg work yourself, and neither will have a fully comprehensive list, as small presses come and go.

I get the impression you're looking for an easy route, a short-cut. There aren't any. Also you ignored the suggestion that small presses should be a last resort. If your book is any good, an agent will get you a way better deal than you can get for yourself, with a bigger publisher. And if it's not, it's doubtful even the small presses will look at it.

How do you value your work?
