UK postage

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, so mods feel free to move it if you think you should!

With the new 'size and weight' thing that is happening with the UK postage system this month, a small question came to me. Most publishers ask for submissions to be sent flat A4, but with the new system, this will be more expensive than sending it A5 folded once. Do you guys think that publishers will consider this, and allow for subs to be folded? Silly query, I know, but worth thinking about maybe....

The difference in price isn't a lot really. I write letters to America and Austrailia and it doesn't ever cost me over £2... I don't think you have much to worry about in the way of your pennies. And I'd query each publisher individually about it,some may be okay some not.

Don't fold. If you don't want to spend the few extra pennies to send it flat, don't send it.

I used to fold my picture book submissions and never had anyone complain about it. I would fold a sub if it was under six pages probably. Anything over that and it tends to be difficult to fold cleanly anyway.

To my way of thinking, no editor is going to reject your sub on the grounds that it had a crease in it.

It won't make a massive amount of difference, probably just a few pence. I haven't looked at the price changes at all, but it sounds like one of those things where its an extra few pence over all, just to get them an extra few million pounds annually

I was ever so surprised to hear about the new postage system in the UK (I was watching BBC news). Over here in Belgium it has always been like that. But it is not too expensive, to my experience. Even sending packages over to the USA is affordable.
