Exclamation Please, help the children...

"I miss my friends, Mohammad Abed Al Hadi, Omar, and Mohammad Fraji and I miss my toys, my room and my home. I long for the end of the war and to be able to go back home. I felt very scared by the fighting and I wish for peace in the whole world”. (Mahmoud Bassam Al Najar)

According to the UNICEF, approximately 45 % of the people displaced from the beginning of the war and a third of those killed have been children.

Every day Lebanese children are exposed to fear, violence, hunger, lack of water…. Approximately 750.000 people have lost their houses and have sought refuge in overcrowded shelters with very limited electricity or access to water, or gathered in public areas.

By signing this petition you will help the Lebanese children and their parents to get clothes, food, medicine, protection and support. For every signature we get, you donate 10 cents to the Lebanese people in need. Our aim is to reach 10 million signatures that will translate into $1 million in funds.

"For Lebanon With Love". Please see this also, it is heartbreaking.

Thank you very much,
Hakeem.

Who would sign a petition without knowing what it says?

Anyone can post heart-rending pics & stories - some sort of authentication would be nice, considering the number of times even official relief offerings simply go to help the combatants & perpetrators of the evil going on.

Personally I'd bet the money goes nowhere near the kids & instead buys more rockets to send to Israel.

Hotmail, Gmail, AOL, Yahoo and Google power and support this petition. Meaning that they are going to pay the money to the kids when you sign. I hardly imagine they will provide Hizballah..

Sign the petition, you're not losing anything, you're just helping the children. If you still believe that this is a scam and God knows what else, then you still can say that you signed and helped. Have some feelings.

I went to yahoo & google & can find nothing about this. Surely if they were backing it & donating money for it there would be at the least a link? I've asked yahoo if they know anything about it.

And again - nothing here, or on the linked site, says just what the petition is? For all we know they are going to use the signatures for some other purpose. There is no indication either of just who is running this site. Once the names are gathered, anything can be added to them & presented to anyone at all. Reeks of scam to me.

I cannot imagine such sites as yahoo & google adding their names to a hidden petition & then failing to actually acknowledge it on their sites. Sticking a graphic on a page shows nothing other than the ability to grab & paste a graphic.

Hakeem I don't know much about this stuff. Explain how signing would gain money and help these children.

this site's been registered for about 6 days (according to godaddy.com). how exactly did they get yahoo, gmail, aol, and hotmail to agree to donations in that short an amount of time?
you don't need to get pissed at people for not wanting to sign themselves up for spam, or for a misleading petition, etc.

I am not pissed off. This is not a thread for a debate and I will hold no discussions whatsoever. This is just to let the people now about the petition.

Anyone who wants to sign, just sign. Anyone who doesn't, it's there choice and I'm not going to tell them what to do, but ranting about the reason why they're refusing is ridiculous and un-called for here.

I apologise if I seemed pissed off.

I don't think yahoo, gmail, hotmail, and aol, have agreed to donations. Those buttons on the side of the page are just for sending an email regarding the site and donations to all your contacts.

I'm don't have an opinion on whether the petition is legit or not, but it's misleading to say that yahoo, gmail, hotmail, and aol are power and back the site, along with paying for it. No where on the site does it say that.

Personally, I would view it as an opportunity to collect email addresses so that someone somewhere can spam the hell out of you.

You can tell it's a con by the use of two companies (Yahoo! and AOL) that have registered trademarks. Hotmail and Gmail are not companies so it would be impossible for them to sign up since they belong to Microsoft and Google, companies that also have a registered trademark. Were they to support such a thing they would use their corporate identity and not a cheap graphic.

The registrant has not even put a proper address on - it just says that it's someone called Alex Nalbandian who is in Beirut. Not the best place to be, I should think, if you were thinking of setting up a website.

Sad that a petition like this automatically makes people think it's a scam for raising money for weapons for Hizbullah.

Which is ironic considering that many american citizens couldn't donate fast enough to fundraisers that bought weapons for the IRA to blow my friends up with. And doubly ironic that while the UN was calling for a ceasefire, the US increased its arms deliveries to Israel.

What a crazy fucked up world this is.
