Where to print individual books by homeschoolers?
If this question has been discussed before, I apologize. I'm new here, just learning...
I will be working with 12 homeschooled students this upcoming school year. We will be going through Learn to Write the Novel Way. At the end of the year, they will have written a "novel" of their own, and I am hoping to find a way of binding their books.
If you can point me in the right direction, I would be forever grateful. I don't know where to begin.

For such a project, I would recommend checking out Lulu.com. Once you've checked them out, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

sounds like the best reason to use lulu i've come across so far!
but...
if these are all local kids, you might also want to check out your nearby printers... you may be able to get them to donate some/all of their services... that way, the kids can be involved in the entire process, from thinking up the words, to seeing them actually printed... it's worth asking, anyway... the worst anyone can say is 'no'...
getting the local newspapers involved in following the project can also provide some good pr for the printers... a nice incentive for them to volunteer their services...
it's a great project... best of luck to you all... love and hugs, maia

Lulu does seem like the best option, but Maia offers excellent advice. My wife is a school principal and had a similar school project (poetry). Local printers and businesses were persuaded to cover most of the costs, and ther local Borders sold them.

On second thoughts, if they all have one novel each... Lulu is definitely the best option. You only need ever order one copy of each, it'll look reasonably professional and if their friends and family want copies you can order more at reasonable cost.

Thank you!
Wow, I appreciate all your advice. Bringing this project to the attention of a local newspaper is an excellent idea. And I will check out lulu.com as well. With any luck, and maybe some pleading[-o< thrown in, local businesses may help us with this project.

Are there hidden costs?
Just checked out lulu.com, and it appears we could print individual books for $20.00 or less, depending on book covers. Does anyone know what other costs are involved? I was expecting to pay a lot more, and hopefully will be pleasantly surprised.

The only other cost incured is the shipping cost.
I will note, however, that you will need to be able to layout the book and upload it to their pdf converter. To get everything just right does take some patience and skill. If you have that, then there should be no prob. If not, then I would be willing to do the layout for free.
Good luck with it.

Wow!~
Happy dance...
I am thrilled to hear the cost isn't going to prohibit us from producing real books. I can't wait to see the students' faces when I let them know in September.
selorian72, if I have questions about formatting, I know just who to ask.
Thank you infinity

Heh, I just saw this, Mike. Yeah, I have a soft side I show every once in a while, but I don't want it to get around. It'll ruin my reputation.

Don't worry. I tell everyone you're an evil two-headed beastie who eats newborn kittens for breakfast.

Oh dear. We're out of kittens. Care for a puppy, or would you prefer a nice fresh white fluffy bunny?
