I can highly recommend Martha and Philip O'Connor - www.writersconsultant.com (and no, I don't earn commission!). I've recently read novels by both of them (which are excellent). Check their resumés and references.

I just thought I'd add my own two cents....
I wasn't thrilled about having to shell out money for an editor and I was suspicious about the per-hour many editors charge. It took me a long time to come across any good ones that charge by the word and I think that's the way to go. It keeps the company honest. For example, my first novel (which comes in September...YAY) would have cost me about $1200 for the per-hour from many editors and when I found my company it only cost $590 because of the per word fee. I just think it's the better way to go and thought I'd give you a heads up. Two good editors that I've used before are Saunders and Hemsoth ( http://www.shagency.com) and Richard Steven Blatt ( http://www.blattspad.com
Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there.

Last I heard, Martha and Philip were in Spain. I'll check that and get back to you.

Ok, just wondering, cause their automatic email said they'd be back June 23rd, so I didn't know if that was human error or if they were just late coming back. hehe.

Bit of both, by the sounds of it. They're still away but have left an administrator answering mails - supposedly. I Spoke to Martha last night and she's looking into it - expect a reply shortly!

A possible editor
Dear Lord Raiden,
I just discovered this forum, so I'm not sure what the conventions are, but if you're looking for a conceptual editor, may I recommend myself? I've got nearly twenty years experience and have co-authored one of the best selling writing books of recent years (Self-Editing for Fiction Writers is consistently on Amazon.com's top 25 list of fiction writing books.) You can find out more about me at www.davekingedits.com.
Thanks,

Well, they finally got back to me and absolutely loved the sample I sent them.
Now, as soon as I get the money together I'm going to have them begin working on the manuscript.

Actually, I'm trying to get into the business of editing. I'm kinda slammed this week with other things, but after that, I could do it for free, if you'd be willing let me use you as a recommendation.
If you're interested, you can go to my website (it's listed in my profile) or just PM me.

Without wishing to look like I'm prodding you with a sharp stick, Spherical, what qualifications do you have to edit?
If you want to demonstrate your skills, try one of the stories on my site and post the results here.

Yeah Mike's probably right (the insensitive baastard!). It's a big thing to do, and a big thing for someone to trust you with, considering your new to it all. But maybe you are the best editor in the world- you just need proof of it all.
