What is my Genre?

Unsure what I should label my work as: Up to now, I think its "Inspirational Fiction." But as I look around on various publishing websites, no one seem to have that shape of hole for my peg. Here's how I would describe my work: fiction, with a spiritual or noble angle or moral, similar to an Aesop Fable.

Is it "experimental fiction"? "speculative fiction"?

A sample of one such story posted under http://www.writingforums.com/showthread.php?t=58828

the title is Inspirational Fiction 1000 words.

Appreciate the advice.

I simply skimmed your story, so can't comment on mechanics. I can tell you though that it's not "speculative fiction".

Speculative fiction was coined by the sci-fi community to distinguish the literary works that were developing a half-century ago from the dime-store novels. Speculative fiction encompasses more than time travelers and aliens - it's also used for alternate Earth stories, "wierd" and sometimes fantasy.

I really don't know what genre you would call it, but if you want to start using "Inspirational Fiction", then go for it. Who knows? Maybe IF will become the next big industry buzzword.

Thanks Frank.

Just so you'll know, I've been avoiding the term "new age" like the plague. I'm glad you didn't suggest that moniker.

Speculative fiction would work to clasify these two pieces. But I'll be honest, I like the way Inspirational Fiction sounds better. Genre is just for bookstores and publisher catalogues anyway.
