Does posting for critique consitute web publishing?

I heard that when your stuff is on the web, its no longer marketable because its no longer first use. Does that mean when I post a story on this forum for critique I've also made it unmarkable becuase its found its way on the web?

This is important... I can't use a forum for ciritiques if in the end I've made the piece un-sellable!

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Yes, in most instances it is true. It is a huge gray area.

The safe thing to do is post in the writer's workshop. It is available only to registered users, so it protects the first use rights. You can also just refrain from posting a piece in it's entirety. Posting small excerpts is usually ok, but the Writer's Workshop is the safest way to go, imo.

Hey! Great advice. Thanks - I'll use the writer's workshop for now on.
