Portland, OR: Wordstock Next Weekend!
Here is the link - it's not to be missed!
www.Wordstockfestival.com
Also, I have a line on a great open mic / reading night if anyone in town is interested. vodka and I are going to become regulars here.
Another site of interest locally, and one that will be assisting me with my new publication is the Independent Publishing Resource Center.
www.iprc.org
Great benefits / resources there, and some very cool people that I met at a tour.
pm me if you're local and interested in more info.

UPDATE:
I went to Wordstock today, and I was glad I did! There were many varied genres represented, and I got to learn a lot about my local writing community.
I was able to find out that it's not my imagination - Portland is severely lacking in venues for poetry readings, and there really aren't many slams or readings happening at all. But there are plenty of writers' groups out there, and I was able to hook up with a few people there who had a lot in common with me.
One local journal is right up my alley, and accepting submissions. I talked to the guys at the table for quite some time, and we exchanged contact info in order to work something out in the future.
There was a children's area sponsored by Target that allowed kids some creative time and storytelling. There was a puppet show, too. Let's not forget that R.L. Stine was there as a presenter, and he signed autographs later.
Just down that aisle you could find journals, recycled art, and comics from local legends Darkhorse, among others. Kids of all ages were not forgotten.
Unfortunately, I was unable to convince my daughter that she didn't want to leave when she did. At four pm Gore Vidal was speaking and signing. Something tells me she wouldn't have enjoyed that very much anyway...
I hope if this comes around your way someday you make the trip. It's only three bucks at the door for adults - well worth the price of admission - times ten!
